a metaverse academy settles in the monastery of Marseilles

Pioneering training in this area, which should be deployed in other French cities. A strategic question for Meta, co-financier. The company is subject to many criticisms of this parallel world, which is still in its infancy.

Little hands conceptualizing the parallel universes that will be worth tomorrow. They are between 19 and 54 years old and have just entered the ranks of the very first metaverse formation, in Marseille. The metaverse academy will also settle in Paris, Lyon and Nice, metropolises where the digital professions are expanding.

Marseille is an area of innovation and there is a real need with 6,000 unfilled jobs.

Capucine Tuffier, Head of Public Affairs at Meta France

A lack of talent caused by a very limited educational offer in immersive technologies. One hundred training profiles competed, sixteen students were chosen. The Simplon.co training structure has focused on profiles within retraining or unemployed.

Far from the labor market, the programming and coding language is no stranger to them. A great asset in the selection phases. Today’s exercise consists of overlaying synthetic elements in a virtual world, tanks moving in a frame of castles and towers. “Some refine the sets with a very colorful rendering”enthused Emmanuel Rasquero, responsible for the various trainers.

A training whose first months will take place face to face. The following 15 months will be spent on a work-study program in partner companies that recruit with a vengeance. “The metaverse is a sector with a future. Companies are hiring even before they have met our students,” emphasizes Alexandre Chervet, director of Simplon.co sud-est. The PACA region has set aside an envelope of €350,000 for this training, the company Meta co-finances, the amount remains confidential.

A bet on the future in uncertain skies. The “Web3” revolution counted 500,000 users for the Horizon platform, launched with great fanfare by Meta. Currently 200,000 have joined it and return as amateurs. Last flop to date, the EU launched its platform on the metaverse to raise awareness of climate issues. The gala evening brought together only a dozen users. However, video games in the metaverse are not experiencing the crisis and could manage well. Fortnite has drained 250 million players on the metaverse, the Roblox game platform 200 million and the famous game Minecraft, 170 million.

Staggering numbers that digital marketing tries to collect. “Those who participate in the metaverse are game developers or the cinema world, but it is a niche. It has to go mainstream.”, says Nathalie Badreau, consultant in digital strategy, and co-founder of the research laboratory on metaverse issues at ISCOM. Some brands, including Hermès and Burberry, already market clothing and accessories with the aim of attracting future customers to the real world.

An existing company, in a field of endless possibilities. If the metaverse manages to impose itself, it could revolutionize the professional world. “We can be in permanent contact without spatial and temporal limitations. It will be possible to reach all customers in the world without taking the plane, regardless of the time,” says Nathalie Badreau.

A universe that could be useful for everyone, from medicine by simulating an operation, to heritage, by visiting Notre-Dame, to rehabbing addiction at the first meeting in the metaverse of Narcotics Anonymous. Like any technology, metaverse also appeals to all types of users. Insults or attacks are already there. The many pitfalls experienced by the various social networks, from the collection of massive data to online harassment, directly threaten Web3, taking the example of Web2 (i.e. social networks).

Horizons, Meta’s platform, has provided several parameters to report an abusive avatar. “We will present a report on digital security within a few months with French experts. This issue is crucial.” teeming with Capucine Tuffiers. The number of existing platforms, and those to come, will multiply over the years, independent of the technology giants. France and Europe, strategic partners in the metaverse, can influence these risks. Regulations that echo the GDPR, which will be difficult to follow given the constellation of universes on offer. Mark Zuckerberg, projects a metaverse that will take root “within five to ten years”.
