Pixels of desire – Le Point Watches

Here is probably one of the most unique watches of this end of the year: a limited edition by H. Moser & Cie, whose bezel and crown appear completely pixelated.

“BHello, I would like to buy a watch 01100111 01100101 01101110 01100101 01110011 01101001 01110011”. We can easily imagine the face of the person who had to face such a request. Because that is the name in binary language of the new creation signed H. Moser & Cie, which for convenience we will choose to call Endeavor Center seconds Genesis.

A clock from another place

A simple look at this UFO is enough to understand that we are in an unknown primordial dimension. What do we see? A watch with a 3D printed titanium bezel and crown that both look fully pixelated. The dial is sheltered under a sapphire crystal engraved with a QR code. A new stunning aesthetic choice? Yes, but not only, because it is also about an immersive customer experience of a new kind.

A hybrid product, both physical and virtual

This very astonishing Endeavor Center Seconds Genesis is primarily positioned as the first component of a triptych. It will also give its buyer access to the following two rooms. But the important thing is to know that it is a hybrid product, both physical and virtual. Because at H. Moser & Cie, the challenge is to rethink the definition of the service provided to the customer. “We are at the beginning of a new technological era, believes Edouard Meylan, who is the managing director of the house. It seemed essential for us to evolve with the times, to position ourselves in the subject and to be involved in the definition of the rules of this world, which are still very little known, in all humility and by asking the right questions. The entrepreneurial side is in our DNA and we strive to cultivate this philosophy by taking risks and exploring new territories”.

Going through the doors of the imaginary Moser

Specifically, what does this ground-breaking project, the most visible part of which is this concept watch, produced in a limited series, mentioned today? Each of the 50 copies has a unique QR code engraved on its sapphire crystal. The function of this QR code, which has become a central technological and aesthetic element of Genesis, is to offer its owner privileged access to a completely dedicated digital and virtual ecosystem. At H. Moser & Cie, we talk about authentication of blockchain products; exclusive privileges such as access to ownership of non-speculative digital assets created in the form of NFTs, including digital works of art; a metaverse space, etc. “This immersive experience in the metaverse invites you to discover a new Moser universe that mixes tradition and the latest technologies”, confide the project managers who continue the guided tour in this new virtual field of expression: “The visitor can discover the brand’s history, produce and meet the Moser team in a new dimension”.

Mechanical heart and Vantablack dial

But let’s get back to the nitty-gritty by remembering that the Endeavor Center Seconds Genesis remains a watch meant to tell time. This primary mission is ensured by a self-winding mechanical movement located at the heart of a pearl-blasted steel case with a diameter of 40 mm. A transparent caseback also allows you to temporarily forget the virtual, high-tech, metaverse as you contemplate the heartbeat of the HMC 200 caliber and the rotations of its solid gold oscillating weight. And we will complete this journey between the real and the unreal by specifying that the leaf-shaped hour and minute hands accompany the passage of time in a setting of absolute blackness. An effect ensured by the use of Vantablack, a material that appeared ten years ago. Absorbs 99.965% of light and is considered the darkest substance available today.
