As evidenced by the news of recent days and the shortage of petrol, the car is at the heart of the French’s concerns and remains their preferred mode of transport. So much so that 68% of them say that it would be difficult – if not impossible – for them to do without a car on a daily basis. But this popular high fair, which is the 89th edition of the Mondial de l’Auto, is no longer solely devoted to the passion of millions of enthusiasts. It is also at the heart of economic, cultural, social and climate issues: the automotive industry is currently undergoing profound structural changes.
Despite a too long list of absentees (Audi, BMW, Porsche, Alfa Roméo, Citroën, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia, ….) other manufacturers will be present, such as Peugeot and Renault (with Alpine and Dacia, of course ) , and we are impatiently waiting for the Peugeot 408 and Renault 4L to be revealed to the public, among others. But new players are eagerly awaited, such as Hopium, BYD, Fisker and NamX.
Electric cars, hybridization, hydrogen, alternative fuels, futuristic design, driver assistance, on-board technologies, active and passive safety… The Paris Motor Show shapes the mobility of the future and is a privileged meeting place between manufacturers and the public. The diamond brand is lining up for the return of the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris. Launched at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich in 2021 Renewal continues its momentum with a world first, called 4EVER.
It is a reinterpretation of the mythical 4L, a transgenerational vehicle sold in more than 8 million units in more than 100 countries.
Almost unsurprisingly, this 4EVER is a 100% electric SUV (B-segment) with a 40 kWh battery and a 100 kW (135 hp) engine, due to arrive in 2025, but in a more civilized configuration. Much larger than its ancestor, this 4EVER is 4.16 m long and 1.95 m wide, and its height culminates at 1.90 m. Regarding the wheelbase, it is 2.57 m. On the other hand, question price , it will probably not be necessary to expect “popular”.

Renault Scenic Vision
Unveiled in May 2022, here’s the Renault Scenic Vision concept, which heralds the next generation of the four-generation minivan. Exit modularity and space for a futuristic interior. The production model should arrive in 2024. On the other hand, there is no information about a possible electrification of the engine.
The Dieppe manufacturer has unveiled a concept car with sublime lines that combines an internal combustion engine and hydrogen fuel. A way to maintain the sensational performance while almost only rejecting water vapor.
By visiting the show, the President of the Republic confirms his desire to support the French automotive industry. At the same time, the state announces an increase in the organic bonus from €6,000 to €7,000, and the government will extend assistance at the pump until mid-November.
Peugeot 408, or the Renault Arkana rival
Present with Peugeot, DS Automobiles and Fiat, the Stellantis group did not want to hide its pleasure with the return of the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris. On the Peugeot stand, the star is the 408, a coupé SUV that wants to get its share of the pie in this segment monopolized by the Renault Arkana.
This raised sedan with a fastback roofline is initially offered with two plug-in hybrid engines and a gasoline engine. All-electric is expected in 2024.
Furthermore, during the visit to the Peugeot stand by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, Carlos Tavares, Stellantis’ boss, announced that the electric versions of the 308, 308 SW and 408 would be manufactured in Mulhouse. factory. Good news for Emmanuel Macron, who wants Brussels to give preference to electrified vehicles built in Europe, like the United States.
Hopium Machina, the luxury French hydrogen sedan, will be produced in Normandy near Vernon. It is revealed to the general public for the first time.
Its suggestive lines restore the image of sedans. The search for maximum efficiency for tomorrow’s cars will certainly make it possible to put sedans and their aerodynamic coefficient back at the center of the debate.
Competition as a laboratory for experimentation
Electric, thermal, hydrogen: regardless of the energy used in the end, competition remains one of the main drivers of technological development
The French car manufacturer DS presents a 100% electric concept, which in particular inherits technologies seen in Formula E. E-Tense Performance, that is its name, develops up to 815 hp thanks to its two electric motors.
Peugeot also presents to the public its 9X8 HYPERCAR powered by a hybrid engine and equipped with four-wheel drive. A 2.6 liter V6 Bi-turbo 500 kW (680 hp) open at 90° HYBRID4 is installed at the rear of the axle. The 200 kW electric motor/generator is located at the front with the 7-speed sequential gearbox. The architecture is under a voltage of 900 V.
China as a serious competitor
BYD, the world’s second largest electric car manufacturer, will offer three models in Europe and present its offer at the Paris Motor Show in 2022.
BYD recently announced its entry into the European market with three models: Tang EV SUV, Han EV electric sedan and Atto 3. Unexpected chef’s surprise with the unveiling of Seal, another BYD electric sedan whose first sale will be made in Germany and Sweden.

Another Chinese manufacturer that has started its offensive in the UK, Ora, a young Chinese brand specializing in electrics belonging to Great Wall Motors (GWN), number 3 among manufacturers in the Middle Kingdom that owns the Great Wall brands , Tank, Pocco , Haval, Wey and Ora. With in the luggage the very playful Ora Funky Cat, Chinese electric city car, competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3 and Renault Zoe. This is available in GT version.
We knew it under the name “Cat 03” during the IAA Mobility in Munich in September 2021. The name is apparently not a seller since this electric cat, whose design is reminiscent of certain English cars such as the Bentley Continental or the Roll Royce Ghost, is called “the next Ora Cat “.
The interior is still as luxurious with genuine chrome counters, a large touch screen placed on the dashboard in a horizontal position, as well as a neo-retro XXL center console.
Under the hood, two electric motors powered by an 82 kWh battery deliver 408 hp (torque of 680 Nm and maximum speed of 160 km/h). The announced autonomy is 450 km. This unnamed cat is unabashedly targeting the Tesla Model 3. We’re waiting to know the price.
