Tonight’s High Priestess, Businesswomen, Mother… Cathy Guetta has a new challenge: DJAYZ, its DJ booking app. The events star is available in France and England and intends to export its platform worldwide. A few weeks before her departure for the United States, where she will find her children after closing the season in Ibiza, Cathy Guetta confided to Gala.fr d. her life as a businesswoman, her projectsher family and the values she wants to pass on to her children, but also her relationship with David Guetta.
Gala.fr: You are back in France with the launch of your application DJAAYZThe Tinder of DJs?
Cathy Guetta: From the beginning of the pandemic, I found myself no longer working as my event activity was suddenly stopped. I saw this world moving and digitizing in all directions, and together with my partner the idea came to us to make an application to book DJs. During the pandemic, people learned to party at home and we thought we should make this app (laughs).
>> Elvis, son of Cathy and David Guetta, has grown up well: at 18, he loves to party
Gala.fr: Without covid and confinements, would you have had this idea?
Cathy Guetta: It’s an idea that crossed my mind before the pandemic, about three years ago, but the creative process accelerated during the pandemic.
Gala.fr: You don’t respond to the demand, you create the offer…
Cathy Guetta: Absolutely! The demand is there, but it’s not crazy because people don’t know how to book a DJ. Even so, I am often asked for professional and quality DJs, without them being stars, because not everyone has the budget. We will facilitate the holding of parties and events.
Gala.fr: From almost nothing, you have built your success. Is your app also a way to give lesser-known DJs a chance?
Cathy Guetta: With this application we help young DJs gain experience. They can then apply to bigger clubs, restaurants that will give them an image. The more good reviews they have on the app, the higher they will be able to climb. I’ve always been one to reach out. I have never received a CV, I have always preferred to meet and listen to the background of the people I have worked with. There are many people who call us Guetta Academy.
Gala.fr: The application is available in France and England. Have you missed France?
Cathy Guetta: Yes ! I left in 2005 when my ex-husband and I sold the shares in our companies. France is my country, I am very happy when I am here. I have a special influence on the thousands of people we have known and made to dance at our beautiful parties at Bains, at the Palace… I still miss that a bit.
Gala.fr: Are you more party or business?
Cathy Guetta: i am everything! I don’t want to fit into a box (laughs). I’m basically a party girl. I was part of the party on the employee side, in the management and as owner of the company. I created the party, I’m passionate and it’s my job. But I’m not a party girl. So party girl, businesswoman and mother. I combine all this and it suits me well!
Gala.fr: You are nostalgic for the time when you organized your famous evenings fuck me i’m famous where you had several companies and businesses?
Cathy Guetta: I’m not nostalgic for anything, I don’t regret anything. Every moment, every year brings something new. We introduced our style from 95 to 2005, and each time we had a concept, a decoration, a place, a kitchen… We have always been driven by the desire to provide a special experience. It was a moment, an era, a time… There were no telephones, there were not many festivals or festive restaurants. There were only the clubs. We follow our time, demand, the new generation, modernity.
Gala.fr: Business woman between Ibiza, Paris and London, but also a mother. How do you manage it all on a daily basis?
Cathy Guetta: When I’m a mom, I’m a mom. I dedicate my time to my children, to their schooling, to their friends, to the trips we take. I don’t let other problems bother me. When I’m in Ibiza, I’m not with my kids, I’m in my job. I separate my time and the moments of my life. I’m very well organized and that’s how it works.
Gala.fr: Do your children admire your career and that of their father David Guetta?
Cathy Guetta: Our children arrived in a family of success, success, money, celebrity… David traveled a lot, I had more responsibility for their education and it was important for me to raise them with my working family. . My brother was a mechanic from the age of 14 until he was almost 60. He lived simply with his two children. My son and my daughter know the reality of life, the value of money, effort, work. They see our success. We had a very beautiful marriage, we remarried after 20 years, it was sublime, extraordinary. We managed our divorce by meeting again after a few years. It doesn’t happen right away, until there are the emotions, the grief… But we put our egos aside so that the family remains the family. We tell our children, our beginnings, our setbacks, our sadness, our difficult life to find a place in our world. It is important to tell them about the beginning, what was before we fulfilled our dreams.
Gala.fr: Are you an example for them?
Cathy Guetta: They know that to get there you have to work, fight, study. That’s what they do. My son had 18 in the French matriculation exam, 17 in philosophy and communication Very good. My daughter got into the toughest high school in California, which she chose because it made sense to me that she would go to the French high school in Los Angeles. They want to succeed, prove themselves and prove to us that they can succeed on their own.
Gala.fr: Is it for them that you moved to London?
Cathy Guetta: We moved there because all David’s staff were in London. Me, it suited me that my children go there so that they are as anonymous as possible and live their lives quietly. In London there are many artists, and the English have a certain modesty which does not make them obtrusive. They don’t come to ask us for a photo or spelling.
Gala.fr: You recently agreed to let your daughter Angie, 15, appear on television 50′ insideon TF1, why?
Cathy Guetta: According to her and according to me, she is old enough to show off. I would never have forced her to do that. I never used my children to become famous. My children lived a completely normal life, that’s what we wanted for them. Angie wanted to make this little appearance, it was the right time. She also did it because we are going to live in the US, so it was not very serious that we see her in France (laughs).
Gala.fr: You mentioned your divorce with David Guetta. Doesn’t it annoy you to be often associated with your ex-husband?
Cathy Guetta: Oh no, not at all. We created our story together, I kept his name… It’s a real adventure. We met young people. He was studying economics, I was working in a lounge in Saint Tropez. We held hands and we walked together against the wind and tide because this environment is not always easy. At night, partying is our passion. I remember a first time in Ibiza, we visited all the nightclubs in one night.
Gala.fr: Are you ever tired?
Cathy Guetta: No (laughs). The greatest gift I give myself is to see people having fun through my work, forgetting their worries, living a unique moment in the evening. It is what lives in me, what animates me. Recognition of my work makes me want to continue and do it again and again.
Gala.fr: Do you think you will always be in that environment?
Cathy Guetta: There’s a moment when people will say to me, ‘That’s enough Cathy, we don’t want to see you anymore’ (laughs). I don’t want people to look at me strangely (laughs). I want us to say, ‘Cathy’s here, let the party begin!’
Gala.fr: You still look so young, what is your secret?
Cathy Guetta: Clubbing is for people who like to party, quite young, it keeps you going (laughs). I’m born curious, I’m aware of what’s going on, so I stay young in my head. My children make me young, I like to listen to them and their friends. I like to know what they like or dislike, what they listen to, what they do at parties. I am a modern mother through my profession and our exchanges. I like to take care of myself, maintain myself, do sports and watch what I eat. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink. I have a pretty strict lifestyle. Until when? I don’t know (laughs).
Gala.fr: What are your next projects?
Cathy Guetta: I will finish the season in Ibiza in October and then I will go to the US to join my daughter in Los Angeles and my son who is in Miami. I hope to present my application to the rest of the world.
