In Formula E, the Frenchman DS offers himself Penske…and a Belgian driver from Mercedes!

Stoffel Vandoorne has for a few years in the Mercedes galaxy, the manufacturer with which he was crowned in Formula E last year, just signed with the tricolor DS. And for good reason, the company with the star withdraws from the 100% electric category. For its part, the tricolor formation had to replace Antonio Felix da Costa. The Belgian driver will therefore team up with Jean-Eric Vergne to form a new duo of FE World Champions!

Formula E: DS x Penske, a prestigious association

Other information to remember, the passage of DS with Penske. A prestigious association that leads to a name change, as DS Techeetah now becomes DS PENSKE Formel E Team. Here are all the reactions from the drivers and managers, just after a first test that was carried out on the track a few days ago.

Thomas Chevaucher, director of DS Performance:

It is always an important moment to experience the establishment of a new association and all DS Performance teams are eager to start this adventure with PENSKE AUTOSPORT. And we inaugurate this partnership in the most beautiful way with two world champions on the team! With Stoffel and Jean-Eric, we have probably one of the most prestigious duos, but also the fastest pair of drivers on the grid. With DS Performance’s powertrain experience and software expertise, we are now in place to continue our pursuit of wins and titles! »

Jay Penske, founder and owner of PENSKE AUTOSPORT:
We are delighted to partner with DS Automobiles, an iconic car brand that shares our ambitions in the pursuit of excellence. This is an important milestone for our team and something we have been looking forward to for years. Together we will push the limits of technology in our quest for achievements and victories. With world champion Stoffel and double champion Jean-Eric, I am convinced that we have one of the strongest duos on the web! »

Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E World Champion:

I am very happy to join DS PENSKE next season. It’s a big change for me after four years at Mercedes, but I’m very excited to start working with the team. DS has achieved very good results in the past with two driver titles and two team titles, it is a very good track record that I hope to enrich very soon! I am also very happy to connect with the only two-time Formula E champion history with my new team: two big challenges for the coming years! One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to get back to the circuits, to fight to defend my title as world champion and win many trophies! »

Jean-Éric Vergne, Formula E champion in 2018 and 2019:

I am extremely happy to continue the adventure with DS. Our very first race dates back to 2015, and I think our association has shaped the history of FE. With DS and the brilliant engineers who have been with me for many years, we have together won 28 podiums, 10 victories and of course we have won two drivers’ titles and two team titles! In all these seasons I have built up a real relationship of trust with the team, both on a human and sporting level. I am also happy about the collaboration with PENSKE, which is a legendary name in the world of motorsport, and about forming a very solid duo with Stoffel. Today a new chapter starts, and we will give everything to make DS PENSKE shine at the highest level. Gen3 gives us new opportunities to continue to express our amazing achievements and I am more motivated than ever to win new titles! »

Béatrice Foucher, CEO of DS Automobiles:

With races taking place in megacities around the world and a CO2-neutral certification, Formula E is one of the most exciting and forward-thinking competitions in the world of motorsport. For this new era, it is with great enthusiasm that we seal a partnership with PENSKE AUTOSPORT, a true international reference in motorsport. We are also very proud to continue our adventure in Formula E with our DS ambassador and only double champion in the discipline Jean-Eric Vergne and to welcome reigning world champion Stoffel Vandoorne.
Our experience with Formula E helps us implement the transfer of technology from competition to our road cars to offer the best to our customers. Electrification has been at the heart of the brand’s strategy since its inception. And because the avant-garde spirit is deeply rooted in our DNA, we will continue to push the boundaries by launching only 100% electric cars from 2024. »
