Our experts have tested a number of foldable phones over the past few years and have seen great progress in the field. Now there are some really tempting options on the market for potential buyers. Keep in mind that they are still a bit pricey, but if you like your phones to be innovative and unusual, then these are the devices for you.

It should be added that there are also notable Huawei devices in this category. The fact that Huawei devices still cannot access Google services remains a major setback and makes them impractical choices for many UK users. So far we have not included them here.
We are currently using our favorite foldable devices that can be purchased in the UK. Check out our picks below.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
If money is no object, this is the best of the bunch. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 sets the bar for foldable phones, even if it has its flaws.
It’s bulky and expensive, but the large AMOLED screen is crystal clear and silky smooth to use thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ resolution.
In our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we praised the phone for its notable improvements over its predecessor and gave it an impressive four-star rating. It could have scored higher if not for the drawbacks associated with the bulky form factor. Of course, as foldable technology advances, these devices will get smaller and smaller. Right now, if compact size is your priority, choose the Flip below.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Best Clamshell foldable
The beautifully designed, compact sister device to the Fold 4, the Flip 4 has much of the same impressive Samsung technology and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, but is smaller and lighter.
Sure, it doesn’t give users that wonderful middle ground between a phone and a tablet, but it folds up wonderfully small and works great despite its size. In our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, we applauded the phone’s looks, adaptable camera and powerful performance. Sure, it’s expensive, but much less than the Fold. It also offers a much more traditional smartphone experience for users, whereas the Fold will require some customization.

Motorola Razr (2020)
Best foldable design
The Motorola Razr is far from perfect, but aesthetically it’s one of the most remarkable foldable phones available today.
It was and is a bit overpriced, but now, two years later, refurbished phones offer a more affordable way to get yourself a Razr if you’re a fan of the style. Likewise, we expect a new Motorola Razr in the not-too-distant future, so it might be worth holding on to.

Microsoft Surface Duo 2
Most improved foldable
When it was released, the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 was pretty close to laughable. It was widely reported to be full of bugs and generally unimpressive. Now, a year later, it’s actually gotten a lot better thanks to software updates and hard work from Microsoft.

The company offers software improvements on a monthly basis to combat these launch bugs, and now owners have a pretty impressive device. It’s still unusual in several ways, perhaps not least in that it features two screens connected by a hinge, rather than a folding screen with a fold. It’s not ideal for watching videos, but can be great for multitasking.
It’s probably not most people’s choice, but the Surface Duo 2 deserves a closer look. If nothing else, it makes us excited for what the next iteration of Microsoft’s device might bring.
