HP Envy 17-ch1100nf against the competition
HP Envy 17-ch1100nf is currently displayed as promotion in the house of Darty and Fnac. It meets very few competitors in its category, where it is one of the only ones that offers such a faithful color screen with an SSD with such a large capacity, a fingerprint reader, a webcam trigger as well as Thunderbolt 4 connection. .
Chassis, connector, screen of HP Envy 17-ch1100nf
This versatile laptop can be charged to 50% in 45 minutes and is slim and discreet with its sleek, lightweight Silver Natural Silver design.
The connectivity integrated in this laptop will appeal to a maximum of users because it includes 1 USB 4 Type-C Thunderbolt 4, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi ax wireless modules (newer and more efficient than Wi-Fi ac) to communicate and connect remotely wirelessly, a practical HDMI video output to easily connect it to a TV, e.g. an audio port as well as 3 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) that guarantee transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if USB 3.0 devices are connected.
You can authenticate yourself by biometric recognition using the integrated fingerprint reader and Windows Hello technology.
To maintain privacy, HP connects the webcam with a significant shutter because it is still too uncommon.
It is of course possible to backlit the keys on the chiclet keyboard to better distinguish them in a dimly lit environment.
The screen has wide viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically, and reproduces colors more faithfully than average thanks to its IPS and sRGB specifications. With its 16:9 format and Full HD definition, the screen is also well suited for showing videos and more general High Definition content. The screen is glossy, while most are anti-reflective: this is due to the Corning Gorilla Glass protective layer. As a result, the screen is subject to reflections in a bright environment (e.g. outdoors), but provides punch to the colors.
Performance, autonomy for HP Envy 17-ch1100nf
The HP Envy 17-ch1100nf is aimed at those looking for a thin, large-format laptop for general mobile use.
It benefits from SSD storage with a large capacity of 1 TB, which competes in this area with what hard drives offer, enough to accommodate more software and files.
An SSD offers several advantages compared to a hard drive such as greater shock resistance, lower energy consumption, quiet operation or even greater speed.
In practice, an SSD provides much better fluidity and responsiveness in use than a hard drive. Thanks to the SSD, we achieve in particular much faster start/stop, processing and launch of applications, or even a faster arrival on the cards in online games.
Although there is no dedicated graphics card on board, it is indeed possible to view photos and videos, but also to play modest titles under this thin laptop in large format. And this thanks to the Intel Iris Xe graphics part (which we tested) located directly in the processor.
This is an Intel Tiger Lake Quad Core i5-1155G7, of course a low-power model, but whose TDP of 28W is higher than the classic 15W: it gives better performance, but affects the autonomy.
In any case, combined with 16 GB of RAM, the Core i5-1155G7 delivers a good overall performance that is able to suit a variety of users.
However, not for those who often want to do work that requires processor resources and/or graphics elsewhere. Because in this case it is better to choose a PC based on a non-low power processor and/or a suitable dedicated graphics card.
Finally, on the autonomy side, bet on around 7 hours of battery in light use for this mobile computer whose finesse is similar to many Ultrabooks. However, its weight and large format do not make it the most easily transportable. However, a 17 inch has the advantage of being comfortable for mainly sedentary use (e.g. at home).
