Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 gets One UI 4.1.1 update

Samsung started rolling out the Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1 update to Galaxy phones last month. And the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest phone to get the update. As you know, the Android 12L operating system is focused on tablets and larger phones, it improves the user experience even on foldables. Let’s learn more about One UI 4.1.1 for Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Samsung has already rolled out the Android 12L-based update for tablets and foldables that were launched after the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This includes the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S8. And now the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has also joined this list.

One UI 4.1.1 update for Galaxy Z Fold 2 is currently rolling out in Germany with firmware release F916BXXU2HVHA. But it will soon be available for other regions as well. The latest update includes many new features and the latest security patch from September 2022.

The new features focus on multitasking. The new update improves switching between apps, support for gestures to change the view, show app names in the edge panel, PC-like touch control in flexible mode and more. Check out the changelog below.

Multitasking

  • Quickly switch between apps
    • A taskbar now appears at the bottom of the main screen for faster navigation between applications.
  • Quickly open apps in split screen or pop-up window
    • Swipe apps from the taskbar or the Recents screen to open them, however works best for you. Swipe to the top, bottom, left or right edge of the screen to open in split screen. Swipe towards the center of the screen to open a pop-up window.
  • Quickly open app pairs
    • Pair the apps you use often, then add them to your home screen or taskbar, so you can open them in split screen with just a tap.
  • Easily control window settings
    • You can make the window handle appear all the time, even when you’re only looking at one app, to make multitasking easier. In split-screen mode, there’s also a new button in the window handle that lets you open another app in the window.
  • Easily switch from pop-up view to split screen
    • When using an app in pop-up view, simply tap the split-screen button inside the window handle. You will be able to choose another app to open next to this one.
  • Change view with a gesture
    • Switch between full screen and split screen by swiping in with two fingers from the left side, right side or bottom of the screen. Switch between full screen and pop-up view by swiping in from one of the corners at the top of the screen. Gestures can be enabled or disabled in the settings.
  • Show app names in the app sidebar
    • Turn on Show App Names to display app names below app icons.

Do more with your camera

Extract and digitize text

  • Extract text from any image or screen

Korean, English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, French and Chinese text can be extracted.
  • Get text-based suggestions in images
    • When text appears on an image in Gallery, Camera, or other apps, actions based on the text are recommended. For example, if you take a photo of a sign with a phone number or web address on it, you can tap to call the number or visit the website.

New calling options

  • Easily see who is calling
    • Set a different caller background for each contact to easily see who is calling at a glance.

Express yourself with the Samsung keyboard

  • Rearrange expression buttons
    • Tap and hold emoji, sticker and other buttons to rearrange them.
  • Enter kaomoji directly from the keyboard
    • Spice up your chats and texts with preset Japanese-style facial expressions created using keyboard symbols. (^.^)
  • Customize the space bar
    • You can choose which function keys and punctuation marks appear on the bottom row of the keyboard next to the space bar.

More improvements

  • More powerful search in My Files
    • Choose to search all files or only files in the current folder. You can also choose to search only by file names or to search for information in files, such as text in documents or location information in images. When your search is complete, you can sort the results by name, date, size or file type.
  • Edit your lock screen wallpaper collection
    • Once you’ve selected a group of images to use for your lock screen wallpaper, you can easily add or remove images later.

The new OTA update is available in batches so it may take some time for all devices. Users can also check for the update manually by going to Settings > Software Update. And when the update is available, tap the Download and Install button. Before updating your device, make sure to take a full backup and charge your phone to at least 50%.
