Half of the year has already passed and it’s time to take a look at which are the five best smartphones whose prices range from €899.99 to €1,259.00. For our evaluation, we use several criteria, the most important of which are: design, screen quality, power, camera performance, battery life and user experience. For the camera, we performed our review using our proprietary score, the Ubergizmo CAMERA HW. To find out more, go to the dedicated page.
5 – Xiaomi 12 Pro (€1,099.99)
Xiaomi 12 Pro is a very nice looking phone that has a scratch and fingerprint resistant back so it always looks like new. It is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which guarantees that it can compete among the best Android phones. The Xiaomi 12 Pro performed very well in the synthetic CPU (Central Processing Unit) and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) benchmarks, and its power could make it your favorite smartphone.
The camera has three 50 megapixel sensors: main sensor with wide-angle optics, sensor with ultra-wide-angle optics and sensor with optical zoom. However, some sensors have tiny pixels (0.7 microns or less), which can limit the amount of light captured in low-light conditions. We calculated one CAMERA HW score of 177 for this camera.
The telephoto lens is optimized for portrait mode (48mm), but not for telephoto photography (200mm+). It’s a choice that emphasizes a certain way of use, but we find that most people like and practice telephoto photography more often.
Unfortunately, this phone has not been certified as water resistant (IP68) and tests show that it does not have the best battery life. However, its 120W power supply allows it to be recharged extremely quickly.

4 – OnePlus 10 Pro (€919.00)
OnePlus 10 Pro is a really interesting Android handset because it has great power and excellent autonomy, thanks to its 5,000 mAh battery. In the event of a breakdown, its 65W charger allows it to be charged very quickly. Our technical data shows that this phone offers the highest battery density (mAh per cubic centimeter) of our 2022 range, which partly explains its long battery life.
The impressive rear camera unit has three sensors: a 48-megapixel wide-angle, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with x3 optical zoom. OnePlus collaborates with Hasselblad on the development of its camera and the adjustment of the image processing software. This collaboration leads to the creation of very specific color profiles that can appeal to Hasselblad fans.
To return to more objective considerations, we have calculated CAMERA HW score of OnePlus 10 Pro worth 164. This number indicates that the main wide-angle camera could benefit from better hardware. Its telephoto and ultra-wide angle aren’t as good as the competition on our list.

3 – iPhone 13 Pro (€1159.00)
The iPhone 13 Pro is the best Apple has to offer today and boasts impressive performance along with excellent battery life. Most tests show it far ahead in CPU tests. The graphics tests are less clear-cut, but the games still run very quickly on the iPhone 13 Pro.
As for the photo block, Apple has made a good update, and its wide-angle main module can really stand up to Google and even Samsung. Photo-loving iPhone users should choose the 13 Pro, not the range below. Trust us, it’s definitely worth it.
iPhone 13 Pro camera wins CAMERA HW score of 191, which places it in the leading group, although it is not first. So far, only certain Android devices pass the 200 mark.
The lack of a fingerprint reader is disappointing and many users complain about it. Big screen lovers can opt for the 13 Pro Max, which has the same performance and the same camera. On the other hand, it has a larger capacity battery.

2 – Google Pixel 6 Pro (€899.00)
Google Pixel 6 Pro is the top of the range available in the famous series of the internet giant. Many people love Pixel phones because of the “no frills” Android operating system (OS), but we think the photo/video editing tools as well as the unique style of Pixel photos are other reasons for this infatuation.
The design is quite successful and easy to visually distinguish from the dozens of other devices on the market. This is mainly due to the “bar” which contains the camera on the back of the phone. This bar also hides very well the fact that the camera module is quite thick.
The Pixel 6 Pro uses Google’s Tensor processor, which has the distinction of having multiple computing units dedicated to artificial intelligence, which is a crucial tool for improving images coming from the camera. In terms of speed, it can be compared to a Snapdragon 888, which is very good. However, the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can be up to 50% faster for some newer games. Older games run at roughly the same speed on both platforms.
We really appreciate that Google has made a major update to the camera modules. In fact, the few previous generations reused very similar camera hardware (Pixel 3/4/5). This time the Google Pixel 6 Pro gets a great one CAMERA HW score of 197much higher than the 121 on the Pixel 5.
The improvement in image quality is almost universally recognized by testers, proving once again that the hardware aspect of the camera often makes more of a difference than the software. In fact, photography is largely based on the principles of physics.
Battery life on the Pixel 6 Pro is quite good, but still falls short compared to other competitors. With any luck, users should be able to finish the day without any problems.

1 – Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (€1259.00)
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is currently the best Android smartphone for techies and also the most expensive.
Like Xiaomi 12 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is equipped with Qualcomm SoC, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but pleases us with one of the most remarkable designs in this range and an exceptional quality screen. It has the best digital pen in the smartphone market that offers an unparalleled user experience. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is a monster of power and is perfect for productivity and multimedia.
Not surprisingly, he has CAMERA HW score the highest of our selection, with a value of 203. The overall photography quality is high and the performance of the 230mm telephoto lens is impressive. Unlike some smartphones, the S22 Ultra’s camera is well-balanced, showing excellent image quality at wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto (optical and digital zoom).
Battery life is slightly shorter than last year’s S-series models, but this high-end Samsung has the biggest screen in our selection. The charging capacity has been increased with an output of 45W, which allows for fast recharging. Unfortunately, you have to buy the fast charger because it doesn’t come with the phone. Be aware that Apple does the same and no longer offers a charger with the purchase of a phone.
Find the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra at the best price with our comparator:
All of these phones are very well made, but the various tests still show significant differences. When it comes to performance, the iPhone has an edge, while the Pixel 6 Pro lags somewhat behind. However, it is gamers who care the most about performance. The difference is more subtle for normal users.
There are also differences in phone size, but the quality of digital cameras is probably one of the most important elements for almost all target groups. The Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro lead the way, with the Pixel 6 Pro just behind, but with a clear price advantage for the latter.
The cameras in the Xiaomi 12 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro are worthy competitors, but they have a slight technical disadvantage. On the other hand, the OnePlus 10 Pro has excellent battery life and the Xiaomi 12 Pro charges extremely fast.
It is up to you which of these very good devices is most suitable for your use and budget, but rest assured that whatever your final choice, it will be a high-quality phone.
