Motorola has just unveiled three new smartphones: Edge 30 Neo, Edge 30 Fusion and Edge 30 Ultra, a high-end model for less than 900 euros that incorporates the famous 200-megapixel Samsung HP1 sensor.
While all eyes are on Apple and its iPhone 14, Motorola has quietly unveiled its new Edge 30 lineup smartphones for Europe, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra – Edge X30 Pro in China –, Edge 30 Fusion and Edge 30 Neo. It is especially the first to catch the eye, as it is the first mobile to integrate the famous 200-megapixel Samsung HP1 sensor – presented in autumn 2021. Attractive for photo enthusiasts! And despite its advanced technical sheet, it is still affordable, being under 900 euros. The other two smartphones are positioned in the mid-range. All these new models will be released in September.
Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: an advanced technical sheet
The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra looks like a high-end smartphone with its ultra-thin aluminum edges and a beautiful matte touch on the back. Available in two colors – black and white – it has a 6.7-inch curved OLED screen, in full HD+ and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The panel is HDR10+ (High Dynamic Range) compatible, which provides a more contrasty, readable and realistic display. The Edge 30 Ultra is 8mm thick and weighs 198 grams and is fully covered with Gorilla Glass 5 protection to guarantee high impact resistance. Finally, it is compatible with 5 G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
On the technical side, it embeds the latest generation Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip – the most efficient SoC in the Android market – with a 3.2GHz octa-core processor. It has a random access memory (RAM) of 12 GB and a storage space of 256 GB – cannot be expanded with a MicroSD. A very nice set that promises excellent performance in demanding applications and very good daily responsiveness – perfect for running multiple software or playing a good video game. Two stereo speakers support Dolby Atmos for better sound spatialization. It is IP52 certified, which guarantees protection against dust and water drops – but does not make it waterproof. On the battery side, it has a capacity of 4,620 mAh – compared to 4,800 for the Edge 30 Pro and 5,000 for most competing devices. So a negative point. On the other hand, it offers an ultra-fast charge of 125 W – against 68 W for the 30 Pro – and a quick charge of only 7 minutes – according to the manufacturer – thanks to the TurboPower™ technology. Finally, it has fast 50W wireless compatibility.
Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: the first smartphone equipped with a 200 megapixel sensor
It is the photo side of the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra that impresses the most, as it is the first smartphone equipped with a 200 megapixel sensor – which was also expected from Xiaomi. This has optical stabilization – which corrects parasitic movements during shooting – capable of combining 16 pixels into one to form a 2.26 micron one – allowing more light to be captured thanks to Ultra Pixel technology – and records in 4k HDR10+. This sensor is accompanied by two secondary sensors. The second sensor is 50 megapixels, which takes 123° ultra-wide-angle photos and has a macro mode to offer a depth of field of up to 3 cm. The third is a 12 megapixel model with a telephoto lens with x2 zoom. Finally, the front sensor for selfies – located in the central punch – is 60 megapixels. The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is available at a price of 899 euros, which is still a lower price than its ultra premium competitors.
Motorola Edge 30 Neo: a compact and well-made smartphone
In parallel with the Edge 30 Ultra, Motorola releases two other more affordable smartphones, positioned in the mid-range. Motorola Edge 30 Neo presents itself as a compact model with a good photo configuration, available in four colors – white, black, green and purple. It remains fairly balanced and elegant with its 7.75mm thickness and 165 grams, a rounded polycarbonate shell and an aluminum frame – all with an IP52 certification here too. It has a 6.3″ Full HD+ OLED panel with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. On the technical side, it has a Snapdragon 695 SoC, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while it is compatible with 5 G. The battery is same as Motorola Edge 30, with 4,020 mAh, compatible with faster 68W fast charging and wireless charging.
On the photo side, the Edge 30 Neo offers a photo module with two 64 and 13 megapixel sensors. The first is also stabilized, while the second takes care of all things panoramas, macros and calculating distances for portrait mode. The selfie sensor is 32 megapixels. On the sound side, there will be two Dolby Atmos-certified speakers. All for 399 euros.
Motorola Edge 30 Fusion: a powerful and affordable model
The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion comes as a more affordable version of the Edge 30 Ultra, also in two colors – black and white. It has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ curved OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ compatibility, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In short, a powerful smartphone, compatible with 5 G. On the battery side, the smartphone has a capacity of 4,400 mAh – better than the Motorola Edge 30 – compatible with 68 W fast charging – just like the Edge 30 Pro.
In terms of the image, the model resembles the Motorola Edge 30, with a triple lens on the back. The first sensor is 50 megapixels with optical stabilization and omnidirectional autofocus, and Quad Pixel technology that allows combining 4 pixels in 1. The second is a 13 megapixel ultra-wide-angle and macro sensor, and the third is only 2 megapixels. On the front, the smartphone has a 32 megapixel sensor. Everything is offered at a price of 699 euros.
The three new Motorola smartphones will be available from September 2022. In addition, they benefit from an introductory offer. From September 30 through November 13, the voice assistant is offered with its Lenovo Smart Clock 2 charging base, as well as a refund of 100 euros for the Edge 30 Ultra, 70 euros for the Edge 30 Fusion and 50 euros for the Edge 30 Neo. Please note that this offer only applies to the first 700 products sold.
