Ahead of the IFA Berlin show, Lenovo has announced a range of devices, including laptops, tablets, Chromebooks and displays – and most notably, a pair of glasses for viewing a virtual screen.

Connected glasses Glasses T1

They won’t be available outside of China until 2023, but the Lenovo Glasses T1 (which will be called Lenovo Yoga Glasses in China) already looks set to turn heads at IFA. Described as a “portable private screen for on-the-go content consumption,” these glasses are compatible with USB-C equipped smartphones, tablets and laptops, and will connect to Lightning-equipped iOS devices via adapters.

The T1 glasses look like a real pair of glasses and are equipped with interchangeable nose clips and adjustable temples to optimize comfort and also support personal corrective lenses thanks to a removable frame. The branches also house a pair of speakers, as well as buttons for adjusting volume, screen brightness and color temperature. The virtual screen, which can be anchored to a fixed point in space or move with your head, is powered by micro-OLED technology with 1080p resolution per eye, 60Hz refresh rate and 10:000:1 contrast.

Use cases for T1 glasses include mobile gaming and enable mobile professionals to have a “personal screen in their pocket.” They also have privacy benefits: “Using the Lenovo Glasses T1, employees have a private workspace to avoid shoulder surfing,” says Lenovo.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold (2022): with an upgradeable screen

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold (2022)

The second-generation ThinkPad X1 Fold offers significantly more screen real estate than its 13.3-inch predecessor, thanks to a 16.3-inch 4:3 OLED touchscreen that folds down to a 12-inch screen for use with a magnetically attached keyboard in portable mode.

Not only is the screen bigger, but the bezels are thinner (~10mm) and the device is thinner when unfolded (8.6mm) and folded (17.4mm). Like the original model, the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 is tough enough to pass the MIL-STD-810H test.

Inside, the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 runs Windows 11 on 12th generation Intel U-series processors (up to Core i7 with vPro) with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. Intel’s Iris Xe graphics card, integrated into the processor, provides the graphics.

As well as being bigger, slimmer and more powerful (while remaining fanless), the new X1 Fold has impressive sustainability credentials. The removable back cover is made from 100% recycled material, and post-consumer materials are used in speaker cabinets, power supplies and compostable outer packaging.

This versatile foldable device supports multiple operating modes under the guidance of Lenovo’s Mode Switcher interface: classic clamshell mode with a 12-inch main screen and a virtual or physical keyboard at the bottom; landscape or portrait mode with 16.3-inch screen fully unfolded and placed on a magnetic mounting bracket; and two handheld modes – book and tablet.

The new ThinkPad X1 Fold is also the first to feature an improved version of Intel’s Visual Sensing Controller (VSC), which drives the 5MP webcam to provide auto-framing, wake-on-approach authentication, “walk-away-lock ” and “bystander recognition”, among other useful features.
