Autonomous car: the French are allowed to drive without hands

Hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. This is the universal rule that is the basis of the traffic law. Rightly so, as the driver is obliged to remain in control of his vehicle in all circumstances and that “90% of the information necessary to drive a vehicle passes through vision”, reminds the Swedish Road Safety Association.

Eventually, however, the driver will be able to let go of the steering wheel and let the machine drive in its place, before he is allowed to take his eyes completely off the road to doze off while driving. The car will then have reached the ultimate level of automation, corresponding to level 5 out of five on the driving delegation scale.

No French manufacturer currently offers level 3 autonomous driving
