a laptop with a folding screen

On the occasion of IFA 2022, Asus is launching the Zenbook 17 Fold Oled, a laptop with a foldable Oled screen. A great technological feat that will remain reserved for a privileged few given the price.

Manufacturers are implementing marvels of technology with screens that fold, be it with folding smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, computer screens that can be curved at will or folding laptops – inaugurated with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1. Asus has taken the technology further and is launching its Zenbook 17 Fold Oled at IFA 2022. This laptop takes the form of a large 17.3-inch diagonal tablet, which has the peculiarity of folding in the middle and closing it into two equal parts. A way to adapt the format of the device to its use! The computer is ready for sale, and now has a price and a release date.

Asus Zenbook 17 Fold Oled: a multifunction screen

The screen of the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold Oled is a real centerpiece of the device and is a 17.3-inch Oled panel – almost 44 cm – 60 Hz in 4:3 format with a definition of 2,560 x 1920 pixels. This screen – touch and more – can be folded into two equal parts of 12.5 inches, then with a definition of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels. It has a maximum brightness of 500 nits and full spectrum support for DCI-P3, HDR (High Dynamic Range) Dolby Vision has Dolby Atmos certification – making it a pretty good screen. It boasts a very short gray-to-gray response time – the time spent transitioning between two shades of gray – of just 0.02ms, promising great responsiveness.

Thanks to its foldable screen, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold Oled can be used as a tablet or a book, folded and functioned as a laptop thanks to its touch keyboard, or paired with a keyboard like a real PC. Asus also plans to include an Asus ErgoSense Bluetooth touchpad and a keyboard, which can be attached to the bottom of the screen or used separately as a wireless keyboard – which then allows the use of the entire device. On the resistance side, Asus states a capacity of 30,000 openings and closings – by comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports 200,000 folds…
