Genesis unveils X Speedium interior

Genesis X Speedium

Genesis revealed the interior of the Genesis X Speedium coupe a few days ago at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, continuing the design evolution of the Grand Tourer concept.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an automobile event held annually in August at the Pebble Beach Golf Course in California. Considered the most prestigious event of its kind, it is the grand finale of Monterey Car Week.

Outstanding design and performance have characterized Genesis cars since the brand’s inception. In pursuit of its new vision of electrification, Genesis showcased its unique design language to enhance the legend of the driving experience. Born from a “freestyle” design exercise, the coupé X Speedium inherits the athletic elegance, the brand’s signature, in an even more progressive way.

The coupé concept X Speedium debuted in April at Genesis House in New York. First introduced as an exterior model, its interior design has been developed over the past five months by Genesis’ design group.

“The cut X Speedium was designed as an internal design exercise that we then decided to reveal publicly. It was nothing more than a tough model built on our Athletic Elegance design identity,” said Genesis Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke. “Based on the positive reception it received at the event, we chose to finalize the concept and present it to discerning visitors to the Pebble Beach competition. The interior reflects the brand’s design ethos Genesis“Beauty of White Space”, which is suitable for various luxury lifestyles and contributes to the attractiveness of Dynamic GT. »

Exterior styling that embodies the timeless Genesis identity.

Coupé’s most eye-catching exterior feature Genesis X Speedium is the extension of the full-width lights that reinterprets the Crest grille. This detail carries the brand’s signature in the era of electrification, while symbolizing Genesis’ transformation into a purely electric car brand.

The shape of the body resembles an hourglass when viewed from above. The curved shape accentuates the wheel arches and creates an athletic presence. From the side, the parabolic line runs from front to back. The deliberate ‘anti-wedge’ profile gives the car a relaxed attitude, which is balanced by the tension between the convex and concave surfaces. The elliptical tail light and V-shaped brake light combine to create a striking contrast at the rear.

Named after the famous Inje Speedium race circuit in Korea, the coupe X Speedium embodies the Genesis designers’ passion for motorsport. The car’s emerald metallic color, Inje Green, is named after the mountainous landscape that surrounds the track. It completes the image of a classic car that personifies dynamism, speed and timeless elegance.

A driver-oriented layout and user interface concept

The interior of the coupe Genesis X Speedium builds on a classic principle in Korean design known as “the beauty of white space”. Inspired by Korean architecture, it is closely aligned with the reductive design ideology and is expressed through a minimalistic and purely formal language characterized by strong design elements.

The asymmetrical, driver-oriented layout is a continuation of the theme found on recent Genesis concept cars, where all control systems and displays surround the driver. The floating dashboard and center console wrap around the driver’s cockpit and enhance the driving experience in the age of electrification.

This effect is further enhanced by the interior’s contrasting color scheme, which clearly separates the driver’s area from the passenger’s. The driver’s seat is dressed in Pinegrove Green, which perfectly matches the Inje Green exterior. The contrasting color Monterey Gold around the driver’s seat – a color inspired by the landscapes of the Northern California coast – alludes to the yellow flowers and golden sands found in the region.

In addition, Genesis explores the future of audio experiences through a new sound architecture that blends technology and artistry while emphasizing the brand’s attention to detail. In collaboration with sound specialist Guk-il Yu, who runs Metal Sound Design, a company specializing in high-performance loudspeakers, the coupe is X Speedium has strategically placed speakers to fill the cabin with rich sound.

Tweeters, midrange drivers, woofers and subwoofers are strategically placed to deliver the optimal sound experience. The aluminum tweeters, which emit loud sounds, have been flawlessly manufactured using a precision milling method to optimize acoustic performance.

The driver-focused cockpit features a curved OLED screen that visualizes the heritage of high-performance cars. The graphical user interface includes a centrally mounted engine power meter designed in a ‘newtro’ style, which contrasts sharply with the tachometers found on internal combustion engine models. The vertical screen to the right of the driver’s seat has an integrated touch screen with an optimized user interface. The screen includes the start button as well as multimedia and vehicle control functions.

Expertise in the details

Coupe cargo area X Speedium has X-straps, a detail inspired by the brand’s unique G-Matrix pattern that emphasizes the dynamic coupe experience. This design feature is derived from the concept Genesis Mint.

Another notable detail is the leather – the material itself as well as its use. The quilted pattern on the leather seats and door trim gives the impression of a classic sports car. The steering wheel, meanwhile, is made from cut leather that has been reclaimed from recycled car seat materials and woven together.

Two types of leather are used inside: a vegetable tanned leather and a new innovative and breathable core leather. Vegetable tanned leather is treated with substances derived from plants, such as citrus fruits and mimosa, and treated without chromium. Compared to regular leather, the breathable top-yarn leather used in the cabin upper requires less water and chemicals to produce. The threads used in the finishing process are made from recycled plastic, increasing the material’s durability and waterproofing factors.
