Rumors abound that Adam Warlock and Gamora will be romantically involved in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, actor Adam Poulter reacts.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Will Poulter responds to rumors that his character Adam Warlock is romantically involved with Zoe Saldana’s Gamora in the upcoming Guardians sequel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is directed by James Gunn (who helmed both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and will mark the end of the main arc for Star-Lord’s team. Poulter will be one of many new cast members being introduced to the Guardians universe, along with Nico Santos, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.
Adam Warlock, a favorite comic book character, is a long-awaited addition to the MCU. It has also long been rumored that Adam could be in a relationship with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In previous Guardians movies, Gamora’s love interest was Star-Lord himself, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). However, given the events of the split timelines of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Gamora Peter was in love with is dead and they are now on the hunt for the alternate Gamora. So it’s conceivable that fans are imagining that Gamora may no longer be in love with Peter, but may actually be interested in Adam. A relationship between Gamora and Adam Warlock would also not be inconsistent with the source material, as Adam and Gamora were romantically involved in some of the original Marvel comics that Adam Warlock appeared in (including his solo comic in the 1970s).
Now Poulter himself is addressing the rumors of Adam’s involvement with Gamora. In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Poulter was asked to respond to an Adam Warlock theory with the sound that best expresses how he feels about it. The theory in question was that Adam Warlock was in a relationship with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Poulter sounded decidedly confused in response and went on to say that he didn’t even realize it was a theory until the interview. See Poulter’s quote below:
“I didn’t even know that [theory]. This is news to me. It’s the wait for volume 3, right?
Some may question the veracity of Poulter’s response, as MCU actors have been known to deny fan theories that have proven true in the past. Andrew Garfield has denied rumors that he will reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but of course he showed up. However, Poulter seemed genuinely confused by the theory in the interview, so this denial may be taken more seriously than the responses from former Marvel actors might have been.
Of course, Poulter is a seasoned actor — an Emmy nominee at that — so the actor might actually be bluffing in this interview. While Poulter may not be reading everything circulating online about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Adam’s relationship with Gamora in the comics is pretty familiar, and a facet of the character’s comic past that you’d think Poulter would be more aware of than he appears to be in this interview. Poulter’s confused response to the theory is still notable, but should be taken with a grain of salt until trailers and more press are released for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
