More models of new 100% electric cars are expected at a more affordable price. Review of the potential next favorites for zero-emission drivers.
The offer of electric vehicles is still struggling to be democratized with a majority of new vehicles currently in the catalog whose price (excluding ecological bonus) exceeds 30,000 euros. This is the case, for example, with a “simple” Renault Zoé, whose prices currently start from 33,700 euros or a Peugeot e-208, at 33,170 euros.
Electric cars under 30,000 euros are not yet very common and generally remain small models, practical for everyday use but not really cut out for going on family holidays, for example. We can thus mention Dacia Spring (19,800 euros), Renault Twingo (24,050 euros) or Fiat 500e (26,200 euros).
The most affordable models that fall under the “family” category: MG ZS EV SUV and MG5 station wagonboth of which start at 32,990 euros excluding assistance.
It is also the British brand belonging to the Chinese group SAIC that opens our range of these models, which are about to be launched at under 30,000 euros.
MG, again, has just opened pre-orders for its next model: a versatile sedan called the MG4.
With its length of 4.29 metres, it should offer more versatility than a small city car. Two versions are offered with a range of 350 km or 450 km and two engines, 170 or 204 horsepower.
The basic version starts under 30,000 euros, with marketing planned for next autumn.
It was one of the favorites at the Munich exhibition in September 2021: the first model from a Chinese manufacturer still unknown in Europe, the Ora Cat 01.
With a length of 4.24 meters, it can also play the role of versatile compact, with a rather successful exterior design.
On the battery side, two versions will be offered, 49 kWh and 63 kWh, offering between 300 and 400 km of autonomy, all with an engine with an output of 163 horsepower.
Launched before the summer in the UK, this car will be launched in Germany in the coming months, states Automobile Propre, while waiting for France. The possibility to also discover its official name for Europe: Ora Funky Cat. How not to break?
Fisker is kind of like Tesla’s eternal rival… and hasn’t really had the same success. After an SUV, the Ocean, the American brand is preparing to launch a more compact model, and above all more affordable, with the hope that the car will be offered under our threshold of 30,000 euros.
However, it will be necessary to be a little patient as the marketing is planned for 2024, with an unofficial image of the TopElectricSUV seen by Frandroid.
Aside from some still very conceptual images of the interior and exterior, we still know little about this model, which will be produced in the United States.
A big name in the French car industry and the promise of an electric car for less than 30,000 euros: has Renault found the winning formula to (really) democratize the electric car? If the Zoé played the role of pioneer by converting many French people, the R5 represents the promise of finally affordable zero emissions.
After a concept manifesto which introduced the new diamond in passing and therefore suggested reviving this legendary model, we finally still know a little about this model whose marketing is expected in 2024.
While waiting to learn more about its performance, Renault has already decided to produce it in France at the plant in Douai (north).
And also: Tesla “Model 2”, Renault 4L and Volkswagen ID.2
Other models are expected at a new price of less than 30,000 euros.
Among the most anticipated is the $25,000 Tesla that Elon Musk promised in September 2020 and which he then planned for… 2023. Fans of the American brand nicknamed it “Model 2”, but Tesla has not talked much about this vehicle ago… To be continued!
In the wake of the R5, Renault has also announced the return of the 4L. There are also few details, but undoubtedly a more compact and affordable version is approaching to integrate the range of 7 100% electric models at Renault promised for 2025.
On the Volkswagen side, the affordable zero-emission car will be called ID.2 with an already announced price between 20,000 and 25,000 euros and marketing in 2025.
A little earlier, Hyundai has just announced that they will launch two small electric cars in Europe for under 20,000 euros, writes Carscoops, the first in 2023 and the second at the end of 2024.
