In Beauchamps, on the domain of Lieu-Dieu, we know the unusual residence. At the heart of this 100-hectare estate, sheltered by an ancient Cistercian monastery founded in the 12th century.e century, the holidaymaker will actually be able to choose between caravans, yurts, gabions or even drops of Ô suspended above the water… The estate has even just built five floating cabins, equipped with a Nordic bath.
“It started in 1986 with the opening of a riding center created by my wife, who is a fan of riding”, says Jérôme Maillard, co-manager of the estate. And very quickly the idea of creating housing took hold.
Far from the big cities, the domain had to be equipped with accommodation facilities for groups of riders. Housing with 18, 30 and 34 beds has been installed in the monastery’s main courtyard. “This is used for discovery courses and summer campsexplains Jérôme Maillard. But gatherings of friends and family parties have also become very modern. This remains in the spirit of our company, which is itself a family business.”
Offer new experiences
Due to the smooth operation of the center and the gîtes, Jérôme Maillard joined his wife in the company in 2008 with the desire to develop unusual residences. “We started with the trailers before moving on to the floating home, which was well-suited to our area and its many ponds.he remembers. You must be attractive. There is already such a large offer within classic accommodation. We wanted to stand out. And in our environment of a humid, flood-prone and non-buildable zone, we had to adapt.”
The drops of Ô have come to bring an extra touch of originality. These small cabins of 6 m2 is only as suspended above the channel of the monastery. You can sleep there in a hammock, with your head under the stars or on the bench. It is accessed via a staircase, from a private outdoor space with chairs and table. vsComplete almost all year round, they appeal to couples young and old. “It’s an experience! summarizes Jérôme Maillard. I thought there would be mostly young people. But we finally got a lot of retirees, very happy to have this experience.
Relaxation and outdoor life
With the expansion of the accommodation offer, Domaine du Lieu-Dieu has not abandoned the dynamism built around the equestrian center and outdoor life. “Our basics are ‘animals, nature and space’ or ‘nature, space and animals’ as you prefer, smiled the manager.
The property’s size makes it possible to maintain a large space between the homes, while at the same time opening a window to the rich surrounding nature. The riding center’s horses graze quietly around. “It is very popular at the moment, whether in a family or professional context, especially in connection with seminars. Above all, we offer leisure on foot, on horseback and by bicycle.” No-kill anglers are welcome.
For five years, the site even hosted a wakepark: a water ski lift base. This was dismantled in order in February 2021 to be able to accommodate the five cabins on the water with a Nordic bath, which have come to complete the accommodation offer on the Robinson dam.
But the idea of the ski lift has not finally gone through: the equipment could be placed on another lake in the area, in the immediate vicinity of the Gamaches base. “At the moment, I’m looking for a partner to make a real water park, which can accommodate both the ski lift, but also floating water games or even a restaurant and a campsite.”
In addition to the water park, Jérôme Maillard wants to complete his selection of accommodation, to cover the offer, for ten to twelve people. Canadian houses on stilts should see the light of day soon. They could also be equipped with Nordic baths.
