The new jobs

What can you tell us about the three new jobs and why did you choose to include them specifically in this DLC?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

We had decided that Bahamut would appear in this expansion, so we wanted to add a job that had some kind of connection to Bahamut. Of course, you could only choose the Summoner job, right? Therefore, we decided that the role of Illusionist would act as a sub-job for Inovactor. After coming up with the idea for these two classes, the next question was which weapon was best suited for these jobs, which is why we decided they would use sceptres. From there, Caster was created as a base class that uses sceptres.

We also wanted to add a special flavor to the gameplay since this was for an expansion after all. That’s why we’ve done it so players can experience high-speed gameplay when controlling Bahamut as a Summoner, with a pace that feels like playing a completely different game. With Illusionist, we were able to offer a completely new fighting style compared to the base game, as it asks the player to think about how to fight, while making the most of the accompanying spirit that acts as a support. With all of this, I would be thrilled if we manage to give players a new experience that feels fresh to them when they play this first expansion.

Script

What can you tell us about the role of Bahamut and the Warrior of Light at this point in history?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

SOPFFO is ultimately an alternate narrative and recreation of Final Fantasy (FF1) where Bahamut was a mysterious entity. Why is it in FF1? Why is he not under the influence of chaos? Why does he upgrade the hero class at some point in the adventure? We came up with this mysterious side when we were writing the story, as many aspects of Bahamut remained unexplored in FF1.

As for the Warrior of Light, he is a character who is the opposite of Jack, as well as a strong opponent for him. So you can think of these two characters as bridges that connect to the original FF1.

Difficulty mode

Can you explain to the players the value of Bahamut difficulty?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

We had decided to introduce content at a higher difficulty level for the release of the expansion. We wanted to give more depth to the collection of loot and the development of the character. If we asked players to keep playing on the existing difficulty levels, it wouldn’t motivate them to get stronger. So to provide new gameplay experiences, we’ve created stronger enemies and more challenging missions to establish a simple cycle where players get stronger and then tackle new content.

Equipment

Why did you choose to introduce chaos accessories and equipment, is it to allow players to create new builds?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

As I said above, it’s because we wanted to add depth to the gameplay. There was some depth of customization in the base game, but we were sad that the customization was perhaps too limited to really fine-tune your build, which could have reduced the fun of collecting loot. In this first expansion, we wanted to increase these aspects of customization. So we’ve added unique accessories and effects to Chaos gear so players can enjoy the trial-and-error process of customizing their character.

Invocations

In the future, can we expect the summoner to transform into a summon other than Bahamut?

Daisuke Inoue, co-director of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin (SOPFFO):

I’ve talked to the dev team about feeling a little limited to only being able to transform into Bahamut, but so far nothing has been decided.
