Remember, we talked about it a few days ago. On Sol 495, July 11, 2022, Persistencethe rover off Nasa, had sent a stunning new image back to Earth. The one with a strange structure in the shape of a plate of spaghetti. And before more pictures could be taken, she had apparently been blown away wind. Despite everything, NASA engineers have just managed to identify it.

According to them, it would be a piece of netting in Dacron – a high-strength polyester. A piece of heat shield of endurance. Engineers note that this piece of netting appears to have suffered significant fraying. Suggesting that he must have been exposed to equally great forces.

Rubbish to study

What surprises the NASA teams most is not that their rover finds remnants of its landing system at surface of mars. Rather, it is the amount of remains he has already observed and the distance from which they have been found. Even if the system was deliberately broken a few kilometers from the site of scientific interest. According to the researchers, they may have been naturally carried on the side Hogwallow Flats of the wind. And it will be necessary to ensure that they do not constitute a source of pollution for samples taken on site by Perseverance.

Engineers will therefore continue to study all of these space debris found by the rover with two purposes other than simply satisfying the public’s curiosity. Ensuring that they will not affect the smooth running of the mission. And also that of improving future missions to Mars. Or other places…

Mars: Persistence encountered a strange structure lying on the ground

Did someone spill a plate of spaghetti on Mars? You might think so if you let your imagination run wild. Unless it’s a petrified creature or a wrench. In reality, what we see in this image, transmitted by the Perseverance rover, is a completely different thing. NASA is investigating the matter.

ONE gatea snake’s head, a stone in balance… For weeks and months it has missions that explore the surface of the planet Mars currently (Curiosity and Perseverance for NASA) never stops revealing fun and exciting images. This time it’s Perseverance’s turn again. An image that NASA’s rover sent back to Earth in early July shows something that could look like a plate of spaghetti. Or tangled laces, your choice.

The image was taken on July 12 – Sol 495 – by one of the so-called hazard avoidance cameras that scan the landscape in front of the rover. To avoid disappointment. But NASA teams have not yet managed to identify the object clearly.

More and more debris on Mars

However, it is a safe bet that the object in question is nothing more than a new one space debris. Probably a remnant oflanding of Perseverance on Mars over a year ago now. It wouldn’t be the first time such debris appeared in NASA images.

Just last month, Perseverance had spotted a shiny piece of metal. Identified as most likely a piece of its heat shield. A little earlier this year, it is the helicopter Ingenuity who had pointed to others landing debris. Including parachute of endurance. So much evidence that space exploration is making a mark. And perhaps the opportunity to catch the problem before it becomes a real problem.
