An Indian summer at Espace de l’art concret with 3 new exhibitions between art and nature to discover until autumn 2022.

Espace de l’Art Concret in Mouans-Sartoux presents 3 new exhibitions until autumn.

One dedicated to the theme of the landscape through the emblematic figure of Gilles Clément, gardener, landscape gardener and botanist known throughout the world, the second around the work of the visual artist Anne-Valérie Gasc and a third that invites a new generation of artists to draw from the collection’s works for an explosive face to face: Filiations 2.

An exhibition with and around Gilles Clément with Olivier Calvel, Gottfried Honegger, Enrique Ramirez
Until 16 October 2023

eac. is pleased to highlight during the summer of 2022 Gilles Clément, known worldwide for his gardens and his ecological and political commitments in favor of cooperation with nature. This summer exhibition emphasizes the concepts coined by the landscape gardener (“Garden in Motion”, “Planetary Garden” and “Third Landscape”) by placing them in the mirror of contemporary artists who have reflected on these concepts. By combining contemporary creation and natural archives, this proposal resolutely focuses on the landscape. It was in 2004 that the collaboration between Gilles Clément and eac began, which invited the landscape designer to imagine the rehabilitation of the park Château de Mouans-Sartoux during the opening of the Albers-Honegger Donation building, the fruit of the architects Swiss companies Gigon & Guyer. In 2022, a new facet of the city will be built with the creation of the multimodal parking lot and its green space. It is logical that the municipality asked Gilles Clément to expand his reflection by connecting the old and the new project. It is on this occasion that eac. presents in the castle’s galleries a thematic tour around Gilles Clément’s work.

Anne-Valerie Gasc
Until 16 October 2022

eac. presents, from July 10 and in co-production with Mécènes du Sud, a monographic exhibition of the artist Anne-Valérie Gasc, with new projects ranging from video to installation.

Neither violence nor the spectacular define Anne Valérie Gasc’s work. Yet it is the very notion of destruction that is at stake. The artist sees this process as a tool to create a change in our perception of reality. The exhibition will present the series “Crash Box”, a video experiment that, in an unprecedented way, shows buildings demolished by lightning from an internal point of view, as close as possible to the explosive charges. The images thus captured manifest in the almost nothing to see of the collapse, the failure of the social project carried by this reconstruction architecture in a poetic and political dimension of these gestures. His latest project “Vitrifications” is also based on a critical approach to the voluntary destruction of buildings in post-war architecture. Glass powder is deposited in a predefined path, without a binder, to build a wall which is deconstructed as it is built by sliding the powder, the spectator witnesses the construction of a spontaneous ruin.

Until March 26, 2023

Espace de l’Art Concret has a collection of artworks – rich and unique in France – from a resolutely non-figurative trend. This collection of almost 700 works, which brings together 180 artists of several nationalities, is built up of multiple touches, of programmatic, aesthetic and affective affiliations. The concept of the Filiations exhibition expands this view of “living” creation by inviting a selection of artists from the new generation to choose from Albers-Honegger’s collective works with which they feel in “resonance”.
