Not easy to collect data from all over Europe when the rules are not common. So to begin with, let’s note that console sales are only counted in 10 countries, while digital game sales total 33 countries… compared to 15 countries for physical games. Despite these differences, the big interest in the GSD data is that it includes download sales in addition to physical sales thanks to participating companies… which Nintendo still isn’t a part of.
With these few details in mind, we learn that 76 million games were sold in Europe in the first half of 2022, including 44 million for download and 32 million in boxes. Notably, Germany stands out as the biggest market with 15.4 million games sold between January and June 2022 (a nice 14% increase). Dethroned, the UK is second with 14.3 million games sold (up 2%), while France rounds out the podium with 10.2 million games sold (up 12%).

As on the other side of the Atlantic, Elden Ring is therefore well ahead of game sales for the first half of 2022. FromSoftware’s title thus excludes FIFA 22 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, although the latter is disabled due to the absence of its download sales, as are all the other titles published by Nintendo.
A Nintendo that also occupies no less than 7 places in the top 20, while Sony Interactive Entertainment comfortably places its two major new products, Horizon Forbidden West (6th) and Gran Turismo 7 (7th). Unsurprisingly, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga also confirms his success in Europe, as a reminder that he is the current dolphin from FromSoftware in the US. Beaten in particular by Cerebral Academy: battle of brains, Call of Duty: Vanguard, on the other hand, confirms its poor performance with its 18th place.
PS5 availability doesn’t get any better
If you only consider a sample of 10 countries, of which Germany and the UK are not even a part, there are just over 2 million consoles sold in the first half of the year, a decrease of 21%. This is low and, above all, inevitable given the lack of the new generation of consoles, especially for a PS5 a decrease of 44% compared to the first half of 2021. Sony’s console still offers itself second place ahead of the Xbox Series (which grew by 9 %), while Switch consolidates its lead with revenue of 7%.
To mention the accessories, finally, more than 8.6 million products (controllers, helmets and other amiibos) were found, a decrease of 4%. The DualSense controller has been the best-selling accessory since the start of the year, with sales up 53%, thanks mainly to the launch of its new colors. Let’s add that PlayStation Store prepaid cards are still by far the most popular.
