Endress + Hauser continues on the growth path. Over the past five years, the number of employees at the Reinach plant in Switzerland has increased by 20% to more than 2,000. At the same time, the number of devices produced has increased significantly, and the portfolio of digital solutions has expanded. To meet the new demands of the work environment, vocational training positions and digitalisation at the same time, the specialist in measurement and automation technology has invested 60 million Swiss francs in the Reinach campus. Endress + Hauser thus celebrated the opening of the nearly 150-meter-long building in Reinach on 1 July. The new facility, which has more than 25,000 square meters, equivalent to about four football fields, was built with approximately 19,000 cubic meters of concrete and 2,200 tons of reinforced steel and other materials.

The new building houses Endress + Hauser Flow, the product center for flow measurement technology, as well as Endress + Hauser Digital Solutions, which in the group is responsible for all matters concerning communication and automation solutions.

Meet a constant demand for high quality instrumentation and solutions

With this new building, Endress + Hauser responds to the constant demand for high quality instrumentation and solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) environments in the process industry. Liquids and gases must always be monitored, measured and regulated with great precision. Among other things, this is driven by increasingly stringent government regulations and increasing demands for quality and environmental protection worldwide. “Endress + Hauser Flow has responded to this development, expanding its portfolio and doubling the number of units produced over the past decade. The consequence is an ongoing expansion of production capacity and the creation of additional jobs.

Learning environment conducive to learning For Endress + Hauser, investing in the people of tomorrow also means laying the foundations for the future. The new building places training and education at the heart of the operation and provides sufficient space for learning-friendly spaces with workshops, laboratories and training rooms, allowing for an increase in the number of positions, learning and professional careers.

Sustainable energy concept

Endress + Hauser is also using the new building to align its continued business growth even more closely with its environmental and social responsibilities. In light of the goal of Endress + Hauser Flows’ sustainability strategy to operate its buildings in Reinach in a CO2-neutral manner by 2030, great emphasis is placed on climate-friendly facility management. As part of the energy concept, for example, waste heat is stored in a layered storage tank for hot water and then used for heating. A comprehensive energy monitoring system with instruments from the company’s own portfolio also helps to continuously optimize building operations. Large photovoltaic systems have been installed on the roof of the new building, which provides a peak capacity of 365 kilowatts, enough to cover the annual electricity needs of approximately 75 single-family houses. In Reinach, Endress + Hauser now has photovoltaic systems covering more than 3,700 square meters with a total peak capacity of around 1 megawatts, making the company one of the largest solar energy producers in the Basel region. The roof also houses two colonies of bees and various bee-friendly flowers, a project that contributes to the conservation of biodiversity, as these small insects are considered the most important plant pollinators in Central Europe.
