Play news This week’s 6 indie games not to be missed (PC, PS5, Series, Switch, PS4, One)

Today is Monday. It is therefore time for the editorial staff of JV to give you a small overview of the independent games coming this week. Between the DLC from indie juggernaut Cuphead and the arrival of the Nintendo Switch of the latest game from the creator of The Binding of Isaac, there are big names, but also small, more modest experiences.

Phobia – St. Dinfna Hotel

Do you know the story of St. Dinfna Hotel? This respectable establishment had a pretty decent reputation … at least until it became the macabre scene of a series of disappearances and strange paranormal phenomena. Since then, it has been abandoned, and the inhabitants of Treze Trilha avoid it like the plague. Now that you know what’s going on, your curiosity as a journalist leaves you no choice: you have to go to this old hotel and find out what is behind all this history. Of course, this whole affair is much more complex and cumbersome than it seems. In addition to the presence of a somewhat peculiar camera and a not-so-friendly fanatical sect, you need to pay attention to your poor little heart (and body). Horror and death are never far away in Phobia – St. Dinfna Hotel. A demo is already available if you dare.

The legend of Bumbo

We no longer present Edmund McMillen, the creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac in particular. A true master of independence, he presented us in November 2019 with an RPG puzzle as confused as its predecessors: The legend of Bum-bo. This week, the title ventures onto consoles of all stripes. As a reminder, you play as Bum-bo, a rather special little creature who faces his enemies in an even more special way: by aligning four identical elements. Each defeated enemy allows you to get coins, allowing you to improve your spells in a casino and then return to battle and so on. EBetween Match-4 and roguelite (plus some deck building elements), The Legend of Bum-bo offers a rather atypical experience that would have confused some and ecstatic others. Console players will soon be able to choose their side.

Krog 2

Who said you have to have enough to produce a good game? There are a whole lot of games that aim to put minimalism at the center of their experience. This is especially the case for the titles of Maciej Targoni who made puzzles minimalist its trademark. In January 2015, he presented Hook to us, a very small game meant to be as sober as it is relaxing. Over its 60 levels, the title had been able to seduce, as shown by the more than 7000 reviews delivered on Steam and generally extremely positive. Seven years later, the developer therefore returns to charging with Hook 2. As with the first opus, the goal is to shake your brain a bit to remove all the nooks and crannies that are present on the screen. If the principle remains the same, Hook 2 offers a little more depth by dropping pure 2D. Note that a demo is already available on Steam if the concept fascinates you.

Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms

Gamera Interactive’s RPG is quite well known by gamers. It must be said that over the years he has managed to find a place for himself within the E3 (and non-E3) conferences. Recently, it was during the Guerilla Collective Showcase that we saw him again. In addition to new photos, Alaloth – Champions of the Four Kingdom offered himself on this occasion a launch date for his early access. Players will be able to discover this RPG inspired by big names like Baldur’s Gate and Pillars of Eternity from this week. Whether you are more of an orc, a man, a gnome, or a dwarf in the heart, you will be able to let your courage and your strength speak to defeat the demonic forces unleashed by the god Alaloth. On the program: demanding battles, a dark medieval world, a hectic pace and alliance choices that could well determine the rest of your destiny.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course finally coming on your screens. And that’s good, because the players who enjoyed Cuphead’s dynamic and retro atmosphere started to get impatient. Admittedly, the Cuphead Show made it easier for some to swallow the pill of the many exposures, but the latter certainly did not come close to the title, which quickly became a classic in the indie catalog. Good news, the DLC release date has finally arrived and no delay on the horizon. You will soon be able to discover the brand new Watercolor Island along with Mugman, Cuphead, but also Mrs. Chalice. It is to help the latter that you embark on a new adventure with a series of bosses to be knocked out. In addition to the mechanics of Mrs. Chalice, no big news on the horizon, but always the same mastery on the side of the MDHR studio that offers us an island that is richer and more cultivated than ever.

Almost my floor

A little less than a year after their PC release, Potata Company’s awful point’n’click lands on all consoles. You will be able to discover the adventures of Alex and / or Detective Adam Trust through an adventure that mixes investigation and horror. It’s in the strange House # 9 that everything happens and there’s a good chance you do not come out unscathed. If Detective Adam Trust is there to investigate, Alex is in a very dramatic situation. He is stuck, for some reason that seems unknown, stuck in this famous house. In an attempt to get out of it, he will have to face the monsters that inhabit it, but also determine the fate of the poor souls who live there. Note that a demo (named Almost My Floor: Prologue) is available on Steam if the game fascinates you. Almost my floor has also received very positive reviews on the Valve platform.
