When and how to change the car’s brake pads and discs.

The basis of a car’s braking system is a set of bricks, which have the front and rear parts. But car owners can choose front or rear cover separately when replacing. All bricks are included in the disc brake design, and visually they are a metal plate with bricks. The cost is also affected by the number of components: you have to buy a complete set or only certain parts (replacement of front or rear cushions).

When the driver depresses the brake pedal, the pressure in the brake line increases and the pistons of the service brake cylinders pull out and press the brake pedals or brake drum against the brake disc or brake drum. The latter, in turn, is rigidly attached to the wheel hub, and the vehicle slows down or stops completely.

Brake discs can be divided into different types of brake discs. In terms of design, they can be solid (one piece) or composite (several pieces), and also in terms of cooling: unventilated and ventilated.

Today, non-ventilated brake discs are mounted on the vast majority of small car models and low-cost models in the car industry.

Ventilated brake discs are installed on relatively heavy vehicles and on vehicles in the lubrication segment. They are divided by type of cooling: perforated, with holes, drilled, composite (two discs with a ventilated space) and so on.

Finally, there are also steel pipes and plastic brake discs. They are also used in motorsport, in braking systems in cars in the lucrative segment, as well as in sports and hypoelectric vehicles.

Over time, all parts of a car become worn and need to be replaced over time. Replacement of brake pads should not be postponed. Otherwise, an accident happens on the road. It is quite easy to determine when exactly these parts need to be replaced. First of all, the car owner is advised to be aware of the increase in the car’s braking distance. Also, if characteristic extraneous noises (cracks, shocks) are noticeable during braking, new brake pads should be purchased. In general, pillows are replaced every 20,000 km, but everything individually and directly depends on the quality of the pillows used, the material they are made of, the conditions of use. Therefore, the degree of wear of these components can be determined by the diagnostic method.

The mechanic raises the car with jack or lift, unscrews the wheel nuts and removes the wheels. The brake calipers and brake pads are then removed.

Disassembly of the disc itself is always difficult due to the fact that it sticks to the hub holder (depending on the vehicle chassis and braking system).

The brake pads must be mounted on the same material on both the front axle and the rear axle, and they must be from the same manufacturer. To determine the degree of wear on the brake discs, use a caliber and compare the data with a table of acceptable values ​​of brake discs and pads, which can be found in your car’s operating instructions. The quality of the car’s braking system depends directly on the technical condition of the brake discs and pads, the integrity of which must be checked at regular intervals. In addition, the condition of the braking system elements tells the car owner when to change brake discs and pads. A good braking system is the key to your safety.
