Play news Starfield: Play to make while you wait for Bethesda’s SF title
That’s what we finally know a little more about Starfield! The famous RPG developed by Bethesda under the direction of Todd Howard will allow the player to shape his ship in his own way and then go out into space where he can visit a thousand planets. The goal is to learn more about mysterious artifacts that can unlock the secrets of the universe. “What lies at the end of the road will change humanity,” we hear in the trailer. Starfield should be out in the first half of 2023. In the meantime, here are some already released games that we advise you to do if you like exploring space, with more or less RPG elements.
- Mass Effect Legendary Edition
- No Man’s Sky
- The outer worlds
- Elite dangerous
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
You can imagine that with such a topic, we could not miss the Mass Effect saga. Since it’s impossible to pick just one, we’ll talk about the Mass Effect trilogy. It is an epic SF epic that insists on the incarnation of its character thanks to difficult choices to be made with the many links that are possible to weave. The sense of wonder one feels when one discovers the galaxy and the species that inhabit it makes Bioware’s series an unforgettable Action RPG. Mass Effect is a trilogy that still works well today and is remembered more for the feeling that our Shepard was unlike anyone else more than for its gameplay, which nonetheless gets refined from episode to episode. . Starfield seems to go even further in the things that are possible to do (build bases, ships, etc.) and see (hundreds of solar systems to explore). The theme of space exploration is also addressed in Mass Effect Andromeda if you want to extend the adventure.
No Man’s Sky
While not an RPG, No Man’s Sky has its place on this list, as long as what we’ve seen from Bethesda’s game seems to borrow mechanics from the title shaped by Hello Games. There are actually robot companions, extraction jets, space combat or even basic development. Starfield, however, will be a 100% single-player game, and should be seen as a Bethesda RPG in space rather than a survival / exploration game like No Man’s Sky. That said, if you like going on adventures from planet to planet without ever really knowing what you will encounter, the Hello Games software is for you. With its many updates, agriculture has been simplified to allow players to focus on exploration. It also has a great vibe, aided by a first-class soundtrack. It should be noted that No Man’s Sky has a VR mode to better experience these crazy space poses in the eyes of the hero.
The outer worlds
Let’s be clear from the start, The Outer Worlds has never claimed to have the ambition of a Mass Effect. The player here can simply navigate between two main planets, each with multiple areas, as well as a meteorite and a space station. On the scenario side, the hero (which it is possible to fully adapt) wakes up from his cryogenic sleep 60 years too late. Colonization for the development of a better world is a distant memory, now the big corporations are fighting for power over the few habitable moons in Halcyon. The external worlds place particular emphasis on the diversity of approaches to solving quests as well as on moral choices, as the player can embody a saint or a rogue, or even both at the same time, if he wants to try the “double agent” approach. The Outer Worlds, featuring acolytes with varied personalities as well as well-developed battles, is a fairly complete experience and delivers what one would expect from an Obsidian game in this style. It may be a good idea to revive it before tackling Starfield.
If what you’re interested in space exploration games is navigating space (solo or in a team), finding planets, landing on them and meeting other players, Elite Dangerous is for you. Today, David Braben’s software has evolved with the ability to visit planets of the telluric type thanks to an SVR and to go through levels in first-person view. With a rifle on his shoulder, the player can actually travel through vast expanses or military complexes to perform procedurally generated missions. Sabotage, assassination, exploration, data recovery, harvest … there is something for everyone. As one of the best Space Sims released to date, Elite Dangerous can meet your expectations if you want to wander around the entire Milky Way, rendered here in scale.
