The idea is surprising. Installing a space dedicated solely to nature in the heart of a large shopping mall is the bet of Wild Immersion, present for a semester at the Toison d’Or in Dijon. This is the first for this company to specialize in the production of virtual reality films and the creation of experiences to promote the conservation of nature and biodiversity. Captured the public in Dijon? Interview with Wild Immersion President Grégoire Moisson.
It’s now six months since you opened the Wild Immersion room at Toison d’Or, what can you do there?
It is a place where we will find various activities that are mainly dedicated to the family. The star of them is a virtual reality session that lasts between ten and fifteen minutes and allows you to teleport yourself to the heart of wildlife and in 360 °. And then there are other activities that will allow you to educate yourself, connect and understand the issues of biodiversity and conservation a little better today. And then you want reading, movies to watch. In short, a lot of things about multimedia, but not only!
Do these first six months of presence at Toison d’Or meet your attendance expectations?
We want to be a place for biodiversity in a consumption temple, so it inevitably requires adjustments. So yes, it lives up to our expectations, because it is not easy. We knew it and we expected it, we have it. Now we have very high hopes, very good returns and then an increase in attendance and partnerships being forged as we go. So I want to say yes, that does not mean we have done everything and we have won everything. But that means we are on a path that we expected to follow and that we are confident.
On the economic model, where does your income come from?
A lot is free. We enter the store for free and then afterwards to access activities such as virtual reality, or what we here call “animal-driner”, that is, the drawing of an animal, which we find animated on a screen, and in other activities, we pay a package of attractions to be able to take advantage of these extra activities. We have urbanized our lives a lot. The pace has become quite high for everyone, including the kids. The idea here is to give people the opportunity to take a step back. Being in a mall is a great example of what you want to do, that is, take a step back, disconnect from your everyday life to reconnect with nature, to understand what it is and what it represents for our present. and for our future.
We talk more and more about the metaverse and the virtual reality, do you think this technology will take up more space in our daily lives tomorrow?
Yes, without a doubt. There are many questions about the meta-verse. How are we going to live there? What will be offered? This is a topic that we will approach carefully because we recommend reconnecting with nature. It is not entirely contradictory, but we must be careful. In any case, yes, it is clearly a topic that interests us, and a topic on which we position ourselves to always bring a little more connection to nature, also in the worlds of tomorrow.
A new movie every six weeks
VR movies change every six weeks. Following Alba, Around the World, Terra, The Cutest Film, The Great Apes and Treasures of Central America, a new film has been available since Monday, June 13 and can be seen until early August. Aqua allows you to immerse yourself in the sublime universe of the sea.
“It’s time, it’s a little hot. We will of course find a lot of very colorful fish, an octopus, sharks and a certain number of animals, which remind us that all this is very, very beautiful, and which makes us want to “Go there too In ten minutes we will do what a diver could take several years to catch, as we have a concentrate of the most beautiful things that the seas offer us.” sums up the president of Wild Immersion.
