If there is one technology that has been talking about it for a few years now, it is the development of the metaverse, this digital reality, that is capable of transforming the Internet into an illusion of a sensitive world. Even as early metavers begin to grow, security-related issues have already emerged. Whether it’s cases of harassment in a virtual world or atrocities related to the digital economy that the meta-verse relies on, which this OpenSea employee accused of insider trading, the online security puzzle is already in the heads of all specialists.
If the challenges are enormous, the solutions are many, at least in theory.
While some want to rely on the results of the internet, others are counting on the contrary with the advent of a new type of computer to be able to control the thousands of metavers that are likely to be born in the coming years.
Should we therefore emulate what we have already done on the Internet in terms of security, or should we innovate to respond to a new technology that differs from the old one in many respects? Focus on two opposing theoretical schools.
Internet, a model to follow to ensure the meta-verse
If millions of people order online every day without really worrying about security issues today, this has not always been the case.
Before reaching the HTTPS system we know today, it was necessary to go through several stages. The SSL protocol has thus known several versions, the first of which has just been abandoned due to security flaws that could be used against the Internet user. But even more, the businesses and services found on the Internet have been able to win the trust of consumers.

On the contrary, some researchers believe that these computers will be able to develop security keys that are far better than ours. Combined with technology such as deep learning in the field of artificial intelligence, quantum computers equipped with quantum machine learning would then be capable of holdings. Managing security in a blockchain against their counterparts trying to break security will then be a child’s play for those intelligent machines that learn from their mistakes.
Use the power of the quantum computer to secure the meta-verse or preserve these digital worlds from a power capable of reshaping them at will?
It is certainly a divisive question, but neither party has yet answered the best solution.
