It is important to protect it in order to better preserve and improve it.This is the whole point of our action! ”stressed François Sauvadet, President of the Departmental Council, before reminding that the Department aims to label 21 ESA by 2028.

This registration in the ESA is part of a policy for the protection of sites remarkable for their biodiversity, which the Department of Côte-d’Or has been engaged in for several years.

Together with associations and local authorities, its efforts consist of protecting sites that constitute a collective heritage recognized for its ecological, landscape and environmental qualities, which need to be preserved, preserved and disseminated, in particular through the Spaces label. Nature sensitive (ENS). The goals that the department pursues are specified in the department plan for sensitive natural areas and biodiversity 2018-2025.

The biggest challenge is the conservation of fauna, flora, natural habitats and cultural heritage landscapes in a coordinated approach with the partners concerned.

Among these partners, we find in particular the Conservatory of Natural Space in Burgundy, which since 1986 has helped to preserve the region’s natural and landscape heritage. It is committed to promoting, protecting, managing and promoting the natural environments of Burgundy and raising public awareness of the protection of nature and biodiversity.

Since July 1995, the Burgundy Conservatory of Natural Spaces has managed the Cirque de la Coquille under an agreement signed with the municipality of Etalante.

“Cirque de la Coquille is a remarkable natural area, protected and managed for almost 30 years by the Burgundy Conservatory of Natural Spaces in close collaboration with the municipality of Etalante. Marking as a sensitive natural area is an important step in preserving this jewel of natural heritage and strength the partnership between the department and the Burgundy Conservatory, which, in addition to the Cirque de la Coquille, manages 3 other ENS en Côte.

Eric Dudouet, Mayor of Etalante, is delighted with this new recognition, which testifies to the exceptional character of the place: “In addition to the villagers, who are very attached to this place and who regularly go for walks, have fun, play. Ball, especially in hot weather, where the place is very cool and shady, we have many visitors: between 3000 and 4000 people visit the Cirque de la Coquille every year. The place is well respected and damage or incivility is quite rare. We hope the brand “Espace Naturel Sensible “will make the place even more attractive and that the public who visit it will continue to respect it”.
