The standard 2022 TLX starts with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $ 37,700 plus destination taxes. Where it’s optional, four-wheel drive costs $ 2,200 extra.

Type S starts at $ 52,800. With the performance wheels / tire package and a heated sports steering wheel (just a few of the limited options offered with this model), the price is closer to $ 55,000.

Buyers have no shortage of alternatives. The Alfa Romeo Giulia costs around $ 45,500, and the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to cost around $ 43,000. Runs in 2022 Acura TLX

To Acura’s credit, it did not put a dull engine in the most affordable 2022 TLX to entice buyers to spend more on the V6-powered Type S. The turbocharged 4-cylinder unit generates 272 horsepower, more than enough muscle for daily work. as acceleration in narrow turns.

Even the front-wheel-drive models have Agile Handling Assist, a brake-based version of torque vector, where the inner wheels turn into a curve that is slower than the outer wheels, for maximum stability. Interior comfort

From the first moment you sit on the supportive front seats, grab the steering wheel and touch the shift switches mounted just below, it’s clear that the 2022 TLX is all about sportiness. However, each version comes with Active Sound Control, so Acura has not given up the luxury look.

Of course, the build quality and materials are all suitably stylish, with real wood or real aluminum for interior accents. Instead of a shifter, there are buttons for Park, Reverse, Neutral Drive. Just above them is a rotary switch for cycling through driving modes.

Below is a touchpad for the infotainment system. It’s a bit like a laptop’s touchpad, but there’s a weird feeling that requires a little getting used to.

Although the exterior dimensions of the TLX are more medium-sized than compact, it was not translated to more rear space than most of its compact rivals. For example, the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series have better legroom at the rear than the TLX’s 34.9 inches. The 3 Series also has a much larger trunk than this Acura’s 13.5 cubic foot example.

Exterior styling

All we can say is thank goodness that Acura dropped its indefinable styling approach a few years ago. Like it or not, at least the 2022 TLX presence has a well-defined look.

The light shark gray Y-spoke alloy wheels in the Type S wheel / tire package are particularly eye-catching, highlighted by red Brembo brake calipers. Type S is also available in an exclusive Tiger Eye Pearl paint. The less outgoing buyer liked the mother-of-pearl black or blue choices.

Most of the TLX’s extra size (compared to the rest of the compact class) goes in its long hood and wide tracks. The low roof adds an overall sporty feel.

Favorite features

Super maneuverable four-wheel drive
If some companies had called their four-wheel drive systems “super-handling”, we would have counted it up to an overzealous marketing department. However, this one is different. It really allows the 2022 TLX to stick to its curve line with remarkable persistence.

ELS sound system
ELS behind this audio setup is Elliott Scheiner. Admittedly, it is not a well-known name, but the artists he has recorded are certain: Sting, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters. Scheiner used his sound expertise to create systems for Acura. As you might expect, they look amazing.

Acura packages base 2022 TLX with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, power moonroof, heated side mirrors with inverted tilt function, keyless entry / start, dual zone automatic climate control, heated / 12-way power sport in front of seats, artificial leather seat surfaces, leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient LED interior lighting and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Standard safety features include collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beam.

Factory settings

The base 2022 TLX is entitled to a few things like a heated steering wheel, remote start, wireless charging and a rear spoiler. Where the extra features really come into play is with the packages.

The technology package ($ 4,000) adds blind-spot monitoring with rear-view traffic alarms, front / rear parking sensors, 19-inch alloy wheels, real-time traffic update navigation, a GPS-connected air conditioner, perforated leather seats and a 13-speaker ELS sound system.

The A-Spec ($ 2,750) brings simulated suede inserts to the seats, heated / ventilated front seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel, wireless charging and a 17-speaker ELS sound upgrade.

The Advance treatment ($ 4,800) includes adaptive suspension, 360-degree camera system, rain-sensitive windshield wipers, LED lights, head-up display and 16-way power sports seats with top-quality leather.

In addition to these packages is the V6-powered 2022 TLX Type S with standard four-wheel drive. It also has slightly thicker roll bars and additional chassis reinforcements as well as Brembo brakes and 20-inch alloy wheels. Oddly enough, it does not come with the 360-degree camera system.

The most important addition to the Type S is the Performance Wheel and Tire Package ($ 800) with lighter (by weight) 20-inch alloys and Pirelli P Zero summer tires. Type S is also entitled to a carbon fiber rear spoiler, rear diffuser and interior.

At the entry-level, the 2022 TLX uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that develops 272 horsepower and a torque of 280 lb-ft. It goes from a 10-speed automatic transmission to a standard front-wheel drive (FWD) setup or an optional four-wheel drive (AWD) system.

Type S versions feature a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that develops 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The same transmission is used and four-wheel drive is standard here.

Both engines require 91 octane premium gasoline.
