We left him last July, forced to end his career prematurely, only 29 years old, with the club in Lyons, due to a stubborn foot injury that required him to have surgery for entrapped popliteal artery syndrome. A very common injury in cyclists, but extremely rare in other sports. “I was the first professional rugby player to have this operated on,” he reveals.
The former third line Gillian Galan (30), triple champion in France with Toulouse (2011, 2012 and 2019), was forced to give up professional rugby and find a rehabilitation project as soon as possible. A successful challenge since residing in Montauban, educated at USM, is now a young entrepreneur in the making, who has just launched his brand Nooto, a functional drink inspired by medicine and Asian culture, including this beautiful baby (1.93 m; 130 kg) is a big fan. “It is a product that we recommend as a cure for boost the immune system »he clarifies before continuing:
It is a beverage that prevents our body from spending too much energy on defending itself, but it is not a direct energy source like Red Bull, which has many sugars. It contains ginseng, astragalus, echinacea and hemp and it contains 75% of the recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals.
A drink marketed in bars, restaurants and sports halls
It’s a new project for Gillian Galan since her brand Nooto was officially launched on Tuesday, May 24 with its two partners from Colomiers, Sullivan Rambaud and Thibaud Marcuire. His business is based in Bouloc, 25 km north of Toulouse, but the drinks are produced in small quantities near Nantes. “It’s an innovative project because it’s the only one 100% natural drink which boosts the immune system, ”insists the former Stade Toulousain and LOU player. “It is only made from plants, and the sugar comes directly from the fruit. “We just wanted to offer a drink that feels good and something good that you can share with friends, but it’s not medicine,” the young entrepreneur insists.
Events have already begun to publicize the brand and product, especially in Biarritz, where Gillian was this week. The cans will soon be distributed bars and restaurants, “because apart from alcohol and ultra-sweetened sodas, there is nothing else, suddenly we will offer our unsweetened sodas”, Galan explains. The Nooto product will also be present in sports halls from this summer and from September e-commerce site of the Haut-Garonnais Company. Nooto aims to evolve 6 selection of drinks over the next 3 years, including a series dedicated to women.
“It will be our society that will write the future of the company”
The startup Nooto also wants to be innovative within Metaverse and web 3.0 thanks to a collection of NFTs. The name NFT is an acronym for the English “non-fungible Token”, or in French a “non-fungible token”. In the early summer of 2022, Nooto will introduce a collection of 9,999 NFT Nootbots on the Solana blockchain to the market. Each Nootbot is special. “More than 145 traits, such as hair, clothes, eyes, etc., are assigned, making some rarer than others,” says Galan.
“Nootbots will offer their owners unique benefits such as intellectual property rights or the opportunity to participate in the management of the startup. People who buy these NFTs will have the opportunity to completely create the brand and future labels for our beverages. We will also donate a percentage of the profits to an association that is elected by our community. It will really be our society that has to write the future of the company. »
“I wish I had one last fight to say goodbye”
A very demanding professional project for the former professional rugby player, which allows him to clear his mind and move on, despite his still very disabling injury. “I am always disabled. I still can not feel my left foot and I for the most part lost mobility in my toes. I would like to find her one day, because it is very annoying, but no one is sure of anything, and there is also a possibility that it will never come back … ”, explains Gillian Galan.
Although he strictly speaking does not feel any pain as he no longer has “any feeling in his foot”, the former international U20 (4 selections) is going through difficult times. “I often have itch which are awful. It’s a bit like phantom limb syndrome, because it’s irritations somewhere that I do not feel, and then I scratch myself in a vacuum … “
Mentally, Gillian Galan shows great character strength to stay the course and hold on:
I have lots of projects so it allows me to be focused on something else. Life is like that, you have to keep moving forward and being positive. It’s a shame, because I wish I had one last match to say goodbye and really turn the page on pro rugby, but I could never turn a lawn back. It’s been a very long time since I’ve played rugby and I miss it because I really like this sport. That’s life. I knew my career was not going to last forever, but it did not last as long as expected and it needs to be done.
This very disabling injury even closed the doors of his retraining project in a completely different sector than the beverage sector: cheese factory. Although pursuing an apprenticeship in this field in Fronton (Haute-Garonne), he was not able to realize his dream: “In the beginning I wanted to open a cheese dairy, but I had to get an education to become a cheesemaker. Except this one was too complicated because I had to stand all the time and walk all day. I was not able to. For one day it’s fine, but the next day I quickly got tendonitis in my tendon, and I had to stop … “In the end, everything is good, it ends well, since the ex-pierces wall in Top 14 has finally found his way and now has fun in his post-career, and that’s the most important thing .
