when does the series take place on the Star Wars timeline?

OBI WAN KENOBI SERIES. It’s the big day for the Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Before we watch the first two episodes of Disney +, we take stock of the chronology of events.

[Mis à jour le 27 mai 2022 à 8h00] Disney ++ will release a new Star Wars series on Friday, May 27, with the arrival of the first two episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This series sees Ewan McGregor take on the mantle as the Jedi Master, he had camped in George Lucas’ second trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith). In this six-episode miniseries, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself on Tatooine as he plays the guardian of a young Luke Skywalker who is not yet aware of his existence. Meanwhile, he is wanted across the galaxy by Empire forces seeking to exclude the Jedi on the orders of Palpatine and Darth Vader.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is therefore placed between episode 3 (Revenge of the Sith) and episode 4 (A New Hope) of the Star Wars saga. To be precise, the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series takes place 10 years after the Revenge of the Sith, at a time when Kenobi is wanted by the empire and hermit on Tatooine. It is therefore ten years ago that Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen, who repeats his role in the series) switched to The Dark Side and became Darth Vader, the Emperor’s right hand man. It is therefore a period in which Kenobi must hide his true identity as a Jedi Master as they are chased across the galaxy on the orders of the Emperor by Darth Vader, but also the Inquisitors in his pay. Dressed in black, the Inquisitors are Force-sensitive creatures armed with red-bladed lightsabers, which they use to fight the last remaining Jedi since the execution of Order 66.

At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan separated Anakin’s twins, his former padawan and friend, Leia and Luke, so their father would not find them. Leia has become a princess on the planet Alderaan, while Luke has been entrusted to his uncle Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton) on his farm in Tatooine. Owen Lars is also not necessarily very favorable to the future training of Luke in things of power, unlike Obi-Wan. Never mind, Kenobi keeps an eye on them from a distance to prevent anything from happening to Luke, who could be the one bringing the balance back to the Force. It must be said that Tatooine is a dangerous planet: in addition to the empire that searches for Obi-Wan throughout the galaxy, it is also necessary to reckon with the various villains that populate the planet, minions from Jabba the Hutt but also the famous Tusken, or the men of the sand.
