The meeting was fixed and Maserati kept his promise. The Italian luxury carmaker has officially unveiled the Maserati MC20 Cielo, a convertible version of the MC20. Equipped with a retractable electric glass roof measuring 90.9 centimeters long and 61.5 centimeters wide, the supercar, which was inaugurated in 2020, can now drop the top at the request of the driver. And according to Maserati, the integration of this device weighs only the car with 65 kilos. Its total weight is set at 1,540 kilos.

Equipped with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, this MC20 Cielo retains a design close to the MC20. The car still has case-opening doors and is now offered with a brand new body color called the Acquamarina. A sticker with the Maserati logo is inserted in the engine compartment in polycarbonate. New diamond-cut alloy wheels are also available on this Maserati MC20 Cielo, as are carbon fiber rims.

To drive this supercar with its hair in the wind, a single tap on the central touchscreen triggers the roof opening system.

According to Maserati, opening and closing only takes “twelve seconds”. The retractable roof includes electrochromatic glass. Thanks to this and liquid crystal technology, the closed roof can change from transparent to opaque black.

According to Maserati, the roof guarantees “perfect thermal insulation and respectful sound insulation”.

The aerodynamics have been reworked

When you add a retractable roof to a car, the aerodynamics of the latter inevitably change.

Maserati has therefore relocated the air intakes in the engine compartment, added boomerang-shaped cutouts at the ends of the wheel arches and even installed rear air intakes with deflectors.

In the words of the Modena brand, “high aerodynamic performance” is not compromised.

Still powered by a twin-turbo V6

Installed in the rear center position, the engine in the MC20 Cielo is identical to the engine in the Maserati MC20 with a hard roof.

This is the V6 3.0 biturbo Nettuno, which still develops 630 hp to 730 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in “about three seconds” according to the words of the company with the three forks, which also claims that the car can exceed 320 km / h.

The engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch DCT automatic transmission.

Note that in 2025, the MC20 must be offered with a 100% electric motor.

White leather, carbon fiber and Alcantara interior

Inside the cabin of the MC20 Cielo, there is a layout similar to that of the MC20, with two 10-inch screens including a touch screen reserved for the infotainment system.

A drive mode selector is mounted in the central tunnel, while the seats have Ghiaccio-colored leather upholstery.

Carbon fiber was also used on the center console and steering wheel. Parts of the latter are made by Alcantara. Paddles on the steering wheel are present for easy gear changes.

To celebrate the launch of the MC20 Cielo, Maserati is offering the car in a special series called the PrimaSerie Launch Edition. Limited to sixty copies, this exclusive edition includes Acquamarina body color, 20-inch matte black rims in white gold, a PrimaSerie inscription placed on the same rims as well as emblems in several places on the body. The interior upholstery “unites the Alcantara with light Ice leather with contrast stitching in Acquamarina colors”, as explained by Maserati, which specifies that the name PrimaSerie is attached to the headrests of the seats.

The exact release date of the Maserati MC20 Cielo is not known at the time of writing, but we already know that the convertible supercar is priced from € 265,400. Or € 45,400 more than the coupe model, anyway.

Shortly said

It is still based on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, it is still powered by a 630 hp biturbo V6, it is still capable of exceeding 320 km / h. But this Maserati MC20 is different from the model that the trident company launched in 2020. This variant is called the MC20 Cielo and is actually the convertible version of the MC20. For the occasion, the Italian supercar receives a retractable hardtop, which opens and closes in twelve seconds. And thanks to the use of electrochromatic glass, the roof – when closed – can be transparent or opaque. The price of this MC20 Cielo is not known at the time of writing these lines.
