Kumail Nanjiani talks about his Obi Wan Kenobi the potential future of the character after the next Star wars TV shows. Recorded 17 years after defeating his fallen student at Mustafar in Sith’s revenge (2005), Ewan McGregor will reprise his lead role in Disney + Obi Wan Kenobi. The series begins 10 years after the fall of the Galactic Republic, where “Ben” Kenobi watches a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine – a situation complicated by Darth Vader’s group of inquisitors (Hayden Christensen) while chasing the Jedi who managed to survive Order 66 .
In addition to recurring heirloom characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker / Vader, Uncle Owen (Joel Edgerton), Aunt Beru (Bonnie Piesse) and the live-action debut from Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), the limited series will feature new characters in Reva the third sister (Moses Ingram) and a deceiver played by the comedian who became a successful movie star, Nanjiani. After his brief appearance in Obi Wan Kenobi ‘In the second trailer, Nanjiani revealed details about his character. He explained that his character is named Haja and a trickster – ala a young Han Solo – from the planet Daiyu, who is inspired by Hong Kong. Despite the little villain’s desire to avoid attention, Obi Wan Kenobi will draw him into a major conflict within that galaxy far, far away.
In a recent interview with EONanjiani explained how much he felt like taking with him Star wars personality. He also expressed a desire to repeat the role after Obi Wan Kenobi because of what Haja brings to the franchise. Read the full quote about Nanjiani’s potential Star wars future below:
“That was all I thought about. I do not know how it feels, but yes, I would love to play that character again. Not only because of Star Wars, but he is a really, really, really fun character to play “I’ve never had the opportunity to play a character like this before. I think it’s a type of character that we have not exactly seen in Star Wars – with a villain, you know?”
“He can convince people to do things, so he’s a really fun character to play. And I also did a lot of research online about scammers and magicians. Because magicians, let’s face it, they’re a bit like scammers, right? They deceive people. So I’ve really researched a lot of things about it to learn how to really play a character like this. And I love this character so much. It would really be a dream come true to play him again. Can we have [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy here? ”
As was the case The Mandalorian ‘Like Din Darjin (Pedro Pascal) or Grogu, it’s sometimes clear when new characters will have important mandates in the franchise’s future projects. Other times, projects such as Solo: A Star Wars story (2018) features newcomers like Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke), who have been added to the cannon but have yet to reappear in live-action. However, these types of characters appear in Star wars comics and other novels. Whether Haja reappears in live-action depends entirely on the character and the character’s reception Obi Wan Kenobi to the great.
Given Nanjiani’s charisma, Haja is likely to be introduced as a fast-talking character who is inadvertently drawn into an unexpected adventure after meeting a legendary Jedi master. Haja’s past remains a mystery. Before Nanjiani revealed that his character was a trickster, rumors suggested that Nanjiani played a Jedi or former Padawan who survived Order 66. If the latter turns out to be the case, and Nanjiani plays a former user of Force who turned to a life of crime, it would certainly explain how different his character is from an audience he has seen before. Whether or not Kennedy decides to portray Nanjiani in the future, the actor is officially part of two of the largest franchises in the world: Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star wars-when Obi Wan Kenobi debuts at Disney + on May 27th.
