TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, intends to promote its group’s environmental fibers through exploration of innovative solutions for all Galaxy devices.
– How did sales of the Galaxy S22 go?
We are very happy as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series received more pre-orders in the first week than any other Samsung smartphone and tablet to date. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 series have doubled compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 series, with the Galaxy S22 Ultra generating over 60% of this sale.
On the tablet side, pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab S8 series were also doubled compared to the Galaxy Tab S7 series, where this year’s star is the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
Meanwhile, we see in Morocco and parts of North Africa a 25% increase in sales of S22 compared to S21. I am convinced that the Galaxy S22 series will be one of the best selling devices in the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to our efforts to better meet the needs of our customers.
– During the launch of the Galaxy S22, you announced that you started using recyclable products. How did this change go for the company?
We cannot push the boundaries of technology without recognizing the impact of our actions on the world around us. Guided by its vision of sustainable development, “Galaxy for the Planet”, Samsung puts the positive impact on the environment at the heart of its innovations. The Galaxy S22 series represented a crucial step in this journey: It is the first smartphone to integrate recycled marine plastic made from fishing nets left in the sea. We also continued to use recycled plastic in key components in our Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Book 2 Pro series.
Samsung is committed to increasing its use of recycled materials across its entire product line. By doing so, our use of recycled plastic dumped in the oceans can prevent more than 50 tonnes of discarded fishing nets from entering the world’s oceans in 2022 alone. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far, but our work does not stop and can not stop there. We will continue to explore and test creative and innovative solutions for all Galaxy devices to help preserve the planet for future generations.
