Take a holiday in Metaverset

Since Metaverse was announced last year by Meta, organizations from various industries around the world have shown interest. While the meta-verse has its advantages for some use cases, for most organizations it is an opportunity for them to jump on the bandwagon and show their abilities virtually as well.

Before Metas Metaverse, Decentralized was already leading the way as a 3D virtual world browser-based platform. By leveraging the Ethereum blockchain through MANA cryptocurrency, users can purchase virtual plots of land on the platform as NFTs.

Opened to the public in February 2020, large retailers have emerged in Decentraland or bought properties there. Among Decentraland’s brands are Samsung, Adidas and even major fashion brands. Samsung even launched its latest phone model on Decentraland in January this year.

As more brands consider entering virtual real estate in Decentraland, the price of such lands has also risen. In November 2021, a package of virtual real estate in Decentraland was sold for a record $ 2.4 million in cryptocurrency, where the buyer was cryptoinvestor Tokens.com.

Today, Millennium Hotels and Resorts has become the first hotel group to operate a hotel in the metaverse. M Social Decentraland is modeled after M Social hotels around the world. The new hotel encapsulates the essence of the M Social brand of being a forward-thinking lifestyle and aims to be a place for everyone to gather and experience Decentraland’s virtual reality universe.

Located near Genesis Plaza in the heart of Decentraland, M Social Decentraland positions itself as a hub for explorers who want to discover new experiences and connect with like-minded people.

“M Social is about being different, being one of a kind. As we look to the future, we must look beyond the traditional model of hospitality and engage our guests through new, immersive experiences. We hope to redefine hospitality through M Social Decentraland by creating online adventures that integrate with real-life events, ”said Mr. Kwek Leng Beng, CEO of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Limited.

The virtual hotel will allow users to interact with an avatar that will guide them on a journey of discovery through the hotel. Although the hotel is virtual, there are also opportunities to get real hotel stays.

According to Saurabh Prakash, Group Senior Vice President, Commercial for Millennium Hotels and Resorts, M Social Decentraland will enable them to reach new and existing customers in the physical and virtual world with online connectivity for offline engagement.

“The hospitality landscape is changing rapidly. We use different technologies to engage customers and improve the customer experience. Metaverse is one such way that gives us countless opportunities to create unique social connections with our guests,” Prakash added.

The reality, however, is that the hotel and other Decentraland brands only provide a virtual experience for users. While those who like to play with avatars and be in Decentraland may find these new concepts interesting, there is still a lot to be done to perfect the experience in the meta-verse.

For example, when Samsung held an event earlier this year, the platform ran into a lot of issues that frustrated many users. As technological innovations continue to improve Decentraland and Metaverse, it may take some time before users can have the perfect Metaverse experience.

There is no doubt that Metaverse is the future. Brands will continue to join the hype and be part of the meta-verse. So far, however, a metavers holiday is an option, but whether it will be enough to entice users is still unknown.
