Château Hôtel Mont Royal: like a fairytale castle, spa hotel in Chantilly (30 minutes from Paris by car)

One of our favorite spa hotels near Paris: in the heart of the Chantilly Forest, 50 minutes north of Paris, hides a castle, a former monumental hunting and music hut in 18th-century style. It was designed by composer Fernand Halphen and has been transformed into a 5-star hotel. Located on a hill, its 108 rooms and suites, its two restaurants and its spa crown 5 acres of forest and ponds.
On both sides the forest. The tone is set from a place a little out of time, almost mysterious, until one reaches the foot of the castle. From the start, we dive into a refined universe, which we discover by small touches.
Led to your room or suite, the same impression of space and brightness. Whether they seek refuge under the roofs, beautiful beams, or in the hotel’s historic wing, with a beautiful height below their molded ceiling, reveal the same sense of opulence. The decor gets a tinted classicism enhanced by a few more contemporary notes: Toile de Jouy reacts cheerfully to the clever stripes, beautiful paintings soften the dark wooden furniture.
The wellness area opens onto a stunning indoor pool. Framed by columns draped in heavy curtains, characterized by sofas, the pool is surpassed by two impressive black chandeliers, giving the room a … royal look. Both the swimming pool and the adjoining jacuzzi are comfortably heated. And in good weather you can take advantage of the sun loungers on the outdoor terrace. The experience continues in the sauna: 12 m2 in hemlock wood, and views of the forest, for an immersion just as conducive to relaxation. It is noteworthy that these rooms remain available from 07:00 to 23:00 for the swimming pool and from 09:00 to 22:00 for the sauna. The atmosphere is even more subdued in the Tiara suite Spa, on the 4th floor of the hotel. This is where classic massages based on essential oils, signature rituals with natural products and Carita facials are offered solo or duo. And since well-being also involves sports: the 70 m2 gym and its Technogym® equipment, the tennis court, the mountain bike or running routes selected by the hotel show the establishment’s willingness to satisfy its customers.
The former music room now plays another score. The opera has certainly become the main restaurant, where chef Benoist Rambaud shares his taste for cuisine, combining classic and sophistication with a penchant for ingredients from the kitchen garden and from producers he has selected. As for the Stradivarius, it has more than one string to the bow: the old library has kept its high shelves strewn with old books, comfortable armchairs have been pushed in by the fireplace to sip a cocktail, tables have been set up to enjoy rather or fall in love, on the large terrace in summer, with a colorful salad.

Joigny, a beautiful small art town 1h30 from Paris and located on the banks of the Yonne, La Côte Saint-Jacques & Spa, a Relais & Châteaux, where the same family since 1945 have replaced each other. Known and recognized for its first-class cuisine – noted by the Michelin guide since 1971! – The establishment is a real gastronomic stopover: The 2 Michelin macaroons honor the former chef Michel Lorain’s signature dishes as much as the creativity of his son Jean-Michel. The hotel itself has 5 stars, has 32 rooms and suites, each with its own personality. Karine Lorain, the owner, took care of this rather modern and colorful decoration, underlined by the architecture of the house. And the must of the rooms and suites, these stunning views of the soothing river. The 800 m2 spa has found its refuge: Out of sight but flooded with light, the indoor swimming pool, heated to 29 ° C, is extended with a charming garden on the edge of the river. We go downstairs to enjoy a treatment. Paoma, Equatoria and Baïja: the brands are carefully selected. And for a romantic moment, we choose a treatment for two with a Japanese Ofuro bath.
We like: The VIP room with hammam and spa should be privatized with tea time or champagne.

Champillon, a small village 10 minutes from Epernay and less than an hour by TGV from Paris. And an idyllic place to decorate a prestigious hotel over the Champagne vineyards. 10,000 m2 of this luminous limestone, for a building of assumed modernity and filled with bay windows. We are far from the inn – of which only a few walls remain – that would have housed Napoleon in his time! The interiors of the Royal Champagne reveal an atmosphere that exudes a luxury of beautiful sobriety, barely waved by cascades of chandeliers, soft shades that are barely disturbed by touches of bright colors: Sybille de Margerie has equally sublimated the 47 rooms and suites with the beauty of custom-made furniture, the declination of beige from rosé to champagne. Serenity is invited even in the 1500 m2 spa. The infinity pool – heated to 28 ° – shows a show behind huge bay windows. A solarium for the summer, just like this second pool that comes alive on sunny days. Also subdued on the lower floor, the atmosphere of the 9 treatment cabins for Biologique Recherche facials and Kos massage. Hammam, sauna and gym with personal coaching have also found their place. We enjoy it all the more than chef Jean-Denis Rieubland’s modern, light and inventive cuisine, which this MOF offers in the gourmet restaurant, Le Royal, rewarded with a Michelin macaron, but also at Bellevue, the bistronomic table.
We like: on the weekends a Shiatsu master gives personal massage: the excitement is gone!

Les Airelles Grand Contrôle, spa hotel worthy of a palace in Versailles (20 minutes from Paris)

Le Grand Contrôle is the hotel of superlatives. A stone’s throw from Paris, the establishment, led by the Les Airelles group, has taken up residence no less than in Versailles’ national domain, opposite the Orangery. The building, a work of the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1681, was erected, and with such care and attention to historical detail, by Christophe Tollemer. The 14 rooms and suites transplant each guest into Marie-Antoinette’s time for decoration, while providing all the comforts of the 21st century. With Alain Ducasse as chef, the kitchen – which has just been awarded a Michelin star – is a party, from breakfast to a five-course dinner inspired by the court, always in a truly royal environment. A marvel that continues in the Valmont spa, which in addition to an indoor swimming pool with delicate décor offers a hammam, sauna and of course a range of treatments from the Swiss brand. Finally, visits to the Trianon, the Mirror Hall or the Grands Appartements are organized for guests only, in a private, exceptional form.
We like: The desserts by pastry chef Aymeric Pinard, hailed by the 2022 Michelin guide.

Les Hauts de Loire, Relais et Châteaux hotel and spa about 2 hours from Paris (TGV Onzain or A10)

Admittedly, we move a little further from Paris, but we do not regret the trip at 2:30 to reach Relais & Châteaux Les Hauts de Loire. This property in the H8 Collection buried in 70 acres of woodland, vineyards and lakes is a hymn to rest. Two buildings for two minds, not too far apart. We first enter this elegant hunting lodge, where the welcome is imbued with courtesy in perfect harmony with the decoration: classic and warm with here and there, a few more contemporary tones. The outbuilding plays its role as a Solognote farmhouse with more rural accents, but just as tasteful. Taste: This is often why people come to discover Hauts de Loire. Two restaurants, including one with two stars, both run by Dominique Pépin. The chef distills a kitchen with great finesse that highlights products from the kitchen garden as well as products from local producers, carefully selected. As for the spa, it assumes the happy colors of the brand of treatments distilled in the cabins: Clarins. The quality is there in other words. Hammam and sauna, herbal tea room and product bar are also part of it. As for the swimming pool, it finds refuge in the 70 hectares of park and forest, as well as a tennis court: relaxation can thus be combined with several sporting moments.
We like: weekend cooking workshops, taking a group or private lesson with the former chef at the hotel, Rémy Giraud.
