Realme GT 2 Pro review: our opinion

The Realme GT 2 Pro has been unveiled during MWC 2022 together with Realme GT 2. Available from € 749.99, it’s one of the first smartphones to launch a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the most powerful mobile SoC from the American founder. A feature required on the most advanced Android phones on the market that the GT 2 Pro is going to compete with. But in this segment, does the Chinese company have arguments to seduce?

High couture

Realme does not renew its vegetable leather sublime GT. He prefers to turn to biological polymers for the back, always textured, on his GT 2 Pro. At the top left, a glass block houses three sensors. To the right a plaque marked with the signature of the Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. The look of this flagship is resolutely high-end.

GT 2 Pro hugs the palm perfectly but is easier to use with both given its 6.7 inch screen. We appreciate its rounded edges, which add to the comfort of use.

The dimensions and weight of the Realme GT 2 Pro are as follows:

  • Length: 163.2 mm
  • Width: 74.7 mm
  • Thickness: 8.2 mm
  • Weight: 189 g (paper white / paper green) / 199 g (steel black)

The screen itself records a fine part of the front. The punch in the upper left corner is relatively discreet, as is its frame. The plate is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

To turn it on, go through the traditional physical controls on the page, quite well placed on the right. On the left, the volume adjustment keys are also easily accessible. The fingerprint reader integrated below the screen delivers a solid performance. The smartphone also has a 2D face recognition system.

Finally, to close this part, note that the Realme GT 2 Pro has a USB-C port and two stereo speakers. The mini-jack port and microSD slot are not invited to the party.

A display at the top of the poster

Realme GT 2 Pro is equipped an LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display. It is able to display content in a definition of 1440 x 3216 pixels and a resolution of 526 dpiincorporates technology HDR10 + and offers a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz (adaptive from 10 to 120 Hz depending on usage, 60 or 120 Hz). These technical terms simply mean that the smartphone screen is diffusing well-detailed, contrasting and colorful images as well as fluid at all times.

The manufacturer promises a maximum brightness of 1400 nits and in fact, the screen turns out to be bright enough should be consulted under a scorching sun. By default, the light color mode is used, which gives really vivid images, but there is an appetite for cold shades. We advise you to choose the natural way to get more faithful colors under the eyes.

Shy party animal

Without a mini-jack port, the Realme GT 2 Pro forces us to go through a USB-C headset or use a Bluetooth-compatible device. The smartphone also supports the 5.2 standard.

The manufacturer places a first speaker next to the USB-C port and a second just above the screen. Yes the sound quality is decentaudiophiles will have to look to other advanced models to be impressed.

Full throttle

We said it in our introduction, the Realme GT 2 Pro is powered by a SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Next to that on our version, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. There is also a version of 8 + 128 GB. The experience on Realme’s smartphone does not suffer from any slowdown, as it offers a premium configuration with advanced technologies. Multitaskers will be happy to navigate in a constantly flowing interface.

AnTuTu, Geekbench, 3D Mark and PC Mark

What about gamers? Realme GT 2 Pro is a very good gaming smartphone which can support the most energy intensive mobile games like Call of Duty Mobile to name a few. But beware, the engine in the GT 2 Pro can quickly get carried away and raise the temperature.

Complete formula for the interface

Realme GT 2 Pro is evolving below Android 12. OS is adapted by the overlay of the house Realme UI 3.0. The builder’s interface is known to be one of the most customizable on the market. You are actually allowed to change the theme, icons, fingerprint animation or Always-On display. If you have already used an Oppo smartphone, you will not be out of place, either on the home page or in the various menus.

A tab on the page gives you access to a sidebar from which you can launch applications in split view, but also features such as screenshots. If a few apps are pre-installed, you have the option to uninstall them.

Three photosensors are assembled in the block of Realme GT 2 Pro. Here is the configuration in detail:

  • A 50 megapixel Sony IMX766 wide-angle sensor (f / 1.8)
  • A 150 ° ultra wide angle of 50 megapixels (f / 2.2)
  • A micro 2.0 lens with up to 40x magnification

The first sensor can produce 50 megapixel images or go through pixel binning, merge 4 pixels and thus achieve brighter 12.5 megapixel images. We become very easy excellent results in broad daylight, whether outdoors or indoors. The main sensor actually manages to brilliantly recover the elements that compose each immortalized scene. As a night companion, the Realme GT 2 Pro does not stand out from the competition, but is among pretty good students.

Great angle

Ultra wide angle

Great angle

Great angle

Same definition for ultra wide angle which limits the loss of detail and handles the distortion effect quite well which may apply to the images taken by this type of module. We really appreciate the fisheye condition, which is a lot of fun to use. We would prefer the main sensor to take pictures at night.

Fisheye mode

Last member of this sibling, the microscope sensor just as interesting to utilize. A feature already available onOppo Find X3 Pro and everything fresh Oppo Reno 7. We take advantage here up to 40x magnification.

Magnification 20x left, 40x right

The camera dedicated to selfies has a definition of 32 megapixels and suggest correct self-portraitssometimes victims of overexposure or lack of light.

Default mode on the left, portrait mode on the right (bob is the object of the image taken by the microscope sensor)

Portrait mode available on the back and front do the job, no more.

SuperDart is there

The Realme GT 2 Pro comes with a solid battery 5000mAh combined with technology SuperDart 65W. By choosing an adaptive refresh rate and classic use, the smartphone can offer one and a half days of autonomy. Its 65W charger allows it to perform a complete recharging cycle in 35 min. In summary, you are unlikely to fall victim to the impact of the crash. Black dot, there is no wireless charging.

Which smartphones up front?

For € 800, a whole panel of smartphones is available to us. Under iOS, we are talking about iPhone 13 mini marketed from 809 € which packs a great screen, premium photography and fast performance in an ultra-compact form factor.

Under Android, Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is available from € 759 is a beautiful, well-equipped machine, but a little too expensive when it was launched. Google Pixel 6 is more threatening with its more aggressive pricing (649 €) and the onion-optimized experience that the search giant offers.

It is a risky bet to invest in the high-end market when you are a brand known for marketing excellent value for money. Realme GT 2 Pro is a good smartphone with its beautiful AMOLED screen, good performance and very fast charging but at this price we expected to be blown backwards, especially on photos because it is especially in this area that a phone over 700 € is expected.
