Would you say that the sporting situation has improved since the arrival of Gérard Lopez?

His arrival is a key moment. I would even say that she was of vital interest because without him we would not have managed to gather the conditions much further to ensure the survival of the club. With him we managed it. Of course, it was not without hassle. We have a long-term project and without Gérard Lopez it would not have been possible to think about and define a medium / long-term strategy. If I had to sum up what he came up with, it’s stability.

He has a truly inspiring vision of football and is a person who is committed to providing the conditions for success. From a sporting point of view, after a difficult first year, due to several factors, I would say that the sporting situation is now stable. Of course, in a club with 118 years of history and the fourth most successful in Portugal, we will always have more. There is still a long way to go before one recovers the successes of the past. The project led by Gérard Lopez allows us to build this development step by step.

You seem to be having a really good time with him. How do you distribute the roles?

I am the chairman of SAD for Boavista FC (Ed.note: sports company, separate from the sports club) appointed by Gérard Lopez, and that in itself already means that there is great harmony between the two of us. Specifically, we are in constant contact about current and future management. We agree on a long-term development strategy. We have a good personal and professional relationship. It is a strength for the club’s future.

Do you think that recruitment over the past two years has been satisfactory?

Last year we built an almost new squad as only six players from the previous season were left in the squad. In this context, we were able to bring in some very interesting talents. Boavista now has significant assets, both sportingly and financially.

If we look at our team, we have been able to attract players with a lot of experience, such as Seba Pérez or Javi Garcia, and others who are very courteous, such as Petar Musa, Makouta, Sauer, Nathan, Cannon, Hamache and Porozo. , without forgetting Elis, Mangas and Chidozie, among others. In Portugal, each club has to sell players to balance its accounts.

You once called Admar Lopes a “catraio” (child), and the followers you met in Porto did not rate his work positively. Is he a weak point on Gérard Lopez’s team?

I will not comment on those who went through Boavista. It is a page that we have already turned. I wish him good luck, because it’s the best thing about the project. I’m only focused on the present and the future.

With Elis and Manga’s departure for Bordeaux, is there a fear that Boavista will be less important than Bordeaux for Gérard Lopez?

It does not mean anything. As I have said more than once, the two clubs are completely independent and have different projects. I’m pretty sure he wants the biggest success for each of these two teams. Both develop in different sporting and economic contexts.

Did Bordeaux pay the 6 million call option on Elis? For example, if Bordeaux sells the player for 12 million, will Boavista take a stake?

Elis is leased until the end of the season, with Bordeaux having a call option that I think will be activated. Boavista will also receive a small percentage of any future sales.

‘Bordeaux, I think, will seize the opportunity to buy Elis. Boavista gets a percentage on future sales ”

Gérard Lopez has quantified his investment to 15 million since his arrival. Is this the price of 51% of SAD or is it different?

He has clearly invested in the club, whose budget has increased slightly compared to before, and there have also been acquisitions of several players’ sports rights. In addition, it allowed us to invest in infrastructure, especially in the construction of two training grounds and in the improvement of conditions at Bessa Stadium, with, for example, the renovation of the changing rooms and the canteen for the players. . The value of the acquisition when the company was loss-making, and still is, was 1 million euros.

When he came, you were talking about a debt of 19 million, one of which had already been paid. Now, what is the value of the debt? Does it increase with the arrival of GL?

The debt was much higher than these 19 million and it did not increase under Gérard Lopez. It is the exact opposite. With him, a significant part of the debt could be renegotiated.

Why is the special revitalization plan being questioned and what is the situation like?

PER (Editor’s note: creditors’ repayment plan, under judicial review) was approved by more than 80% of its creditors, and a minority challenged it, which is still under discussion in the courts.

“It is not true that there were delays in the payment of wages”

Rumors, but also information, report late payment of salaries and allowances. Is the club still in a difficult situation?

It is not true that there have been delays in the payment of salaries: we have carried out all salary checks in La Liga Portugal. In the specific case of Adil Rami, there was no delay but a disagreement as to the amount to be paid for the termination of his contract, at the request of the player. (Editor’s note: The Court of Arbitration for Sport has just demanded payment of 200,000 euros to the player.)

What would happen if they were relegated to the second division?

I’m not even considering moving down. This is something that will not happen. We’ve been preparing for next season for a while now.

What is positive about Gérard Lopez’s arrival and what needs to be improved?
